I was watching tv the other day and a doctor said that there is basically no chance of someone losing more than 10 pounds and keeping it off without surgery. I found that to be totally ridiculous. Has anyone ever worked hard and lost the weight they wanted and kept it off? Share your success!

Pieface clearly can't read a question to the end. I don't have a weight problem, Im a boxer that weighs about 11 stone. I'm fine, you should probabl remove the pies from your face and actually read the question.

Of course there is, you would probably just want everyone to be the same dieting failure as yourself.

I joined the gym 2.5 years ago when after yo yoing up and down through fad diets I realised a size 16 trousers where to small for me and I was actually an 18.

I started with doing spinning classes 3 - 4 times a week and changed my diet to a healthy low carb balanced diet. I lost 2.5 stone (17kg) in 5 months and felt great for it. I kept the weight off by sticking to my new way of eating and excersizing but broke my toe a year and a half later just after Xmas so gained a few pounds when I couldn't walk for 6 weeks (about 5kg).

I went back to the gym as soon as I could and after the summer I got myself a personal trainer as I felt I needed some sculpting and some help to loose the last pounds to get the body I always wanted.

I have now lost 3 stone in total (20 kg), gone from a size 18 to a 10 as well as lost masses of body fat and feel great and more motivated than ever. I enjoy training and eating healthy and like learning more about nutrition and it's effect on the body.

I haven't been larger than a size 14 for the past 2 years and have no plans on ever going back to my old ways.

My metabolism is now really good due to my (new found) muscle mass and I can treat myself to "bad" foods now and again. I think the reason I have been a success is that I have changed my lifestyle completely and now live the life of a slim healthy person.

I have lost 38lbs with the help from weight watchers and will power.
I joined my local class in septemer 06 as I was sick of being overweight.
I lost about 2lbs a week doing weight watchers, I'm now at my goal wieght and I haven't gained any weight back.
I do also use my thigh trainer every day and I watch what I eat. So I guess as long as I keep up with what I have been doing the weight will stay off.

I started vigorous exercises 8 years ago. 75-90 minutes 5 days a week. I lost 2 1/2 stone, I have maintained my exercise schedule and kept the weight off, but not lost any more.

I am still no lightweight, but I am much fitter than I was 8 years ago and full of vim and vigour, so I suppose you could say it is a success story.

Believe it or not there's a good weight loss book with a diet that really works- I tried it after gaining a lot of weight during my pregnancy with my fourth kid- called How the Rich Get Thin by Jana Klauer. Ignore the title, but try the diet. The premise is to raise your calcium levels and lower carbs...The cleansing diet helped me shed 5 pounds the first week, but most was water.

I have managed to lose a stone and successfully keep it off. I would like to lose more, but it is a change in lifestyle that has managed to keep it off - not just a diet.

Diets only work short term, the minute you stop, the weight will pile back on. But if you make the change to eat healthily, cut out all the junk and exercise, you could reach whatever weight you desire. I know I could, but it's just laziness most of the time!!!

I started doing martial arts back in Oct. and I have lost 16 pounds and am still dropping slowly. All with only two nights a week of exercises. I have not changed my eating habits at all. As long as I continue to stay active, the weight will stay off. Exercises is really the key here.

10 years ago I went from 14st 10 to 10 stone. I then piled it all back 10 years later and ballooned to 15st 9. I then joined Weight Watchers last spring and went down to 14st 6 and now I have ballooned back to 15st 5 and trying to lose weight again. This is just to show you that diets do not work for a long time. I have been battling my weignt for a decade and will probably be doing so for the rest of my life.

its cliche and boring, but a sensible diet and regular exercise. got me from 13 and falf stone down to 11. its been about 5 years since then and Ive kept it off, I have a pint of Guiness reguarly and treat myself to a bag of maltesers every now and again and I dont torture myself over anything "bad". just exercise and a healthy balanced diet. alot of it is the mind too!

People who regularly weigh themselves and keep track of their progress in a journal are more likely to lose weight.
