Check out that Waverley site - a few years ago I went on it from Tower Bridge to Southend-on-Sea and back on one of its day trips when it was down here (that one actually went further - to Whitstable) but since then I'm sure it comes down this way for a few weeks each year. It's a magnificent vessel and I was fortunate on my trip in that although it was in September it was a beautiful day.

NOT SURE about the Thames but the lakes probably
otherwise you are up a creek without a paddle.
