I have been receiving call from an agency even though I was still making arrangement with my credit card company AMEX to pay my account off in fact they just received a payment from me. I am pissed with AMEX and even more so with this Collection Agency. Amex accepted my payments now they tell me I have to work withthe collection agency. I am mailing a Cease and Desist Certified letter today to the collection agency and also a certified letter to AMEX to get this issue resolved. Do you think this will work. I just want to go on with my life and pay them off

The credit card company has sold your debt to the collection agency and that is why you must now deal with them.

From everything I've heard, Amex is the worst and most rabid collector when it comes to the major credit card companies.

Unfortunately, if they've already sold your account off to a collections agency then you may have no choice but to deal with the agency. The good news is though that you can probably set up a payment plan with the agency, the same as you hoped to do with Amex directly.

Good luck, there's nothing worse than being stressed about collections calls!

I would be very careful with "cease & desist" letters. If you have an American Express car, my guess is that at one time you had good credit. This means you have a good job and possibly own a home. A cease and desist letter could trigger the collection agency to send it to legal. (meaning LAWSUIT) Once your debt is sent to a collections agency it means that the original creditor "charged-off" the debt. That doesn't neccessarily mean they sold it. It just means that they hired 3rd party help to collect it. If a collection agency is now involved, your best bet is to work with them and keep them satisfied to kep them from recomending legal remidies. Sending a payment to AMEX at this point is futile. They still need to forward that payment to the collection agency that is contracted to do the work. payments should be made to the agency. just make sure that you keep GOOD records of all payments made and ask for statements regullarly. Amex will definately sue an account if they deem it "suit worthy" Be careful! A judgement on your credit is very, very dammaging. A paid collection account is minor compared to a paid judgement.
