Religion! It's amazing that that is the common factor.

Your question makes a major assumption that is obviously false. By asking in that way, you make it seems as though these groups are "responsible" for murder. The reality is that these group compromise the majority of people in the world and include the same percentage of evil people that other groups not included have. And these groups also compromise the majority of leaders of our civilized nation, which means they have had more opportunity to do good and evil. In other words, people included in those groups may (or may not) have killed numerous people over the years. But it's because they have more opportunity. But as a percentage, I'll venture to guess that all other non-included groups have killed people at a similar rate.
I guess my answer then would be that the group who has killed the most people is: humans.
We are all responsible for our own actions, not the actions of others and if we all treat people with dignity and respect, then we would see a decline in murder across the board. I would recommend staying away from grouping people and simply argue that we are all bad and need help!

Humans killed the most people - we humans - for various reasons. The most of which is our inability to stop acting and reacting like animals. If you notice the common thread revolves around things like attempts to obtain power and control (an animal modality) attempts to dominate (an animal modality) attempts to bolster a particular group (or pack - also an animal modality) usually on the basis of nothing more than the other guy is in a different pack (religion, nation, ethnic group) .

Since most people haven't answered the question asked, I'll try. I would say that, in order, the group that has killed the most people is..
1. Christianity
2. Islam
3. Judaism
I say this because the Christian religion has been behind much widespread killing throughout history so over time have probably amassed the most "victims". Then Islam, which has more recent history killings. Although Islam is fast catching up, it has only become actively violent in proportion ot Christianity in more recent decades. And, well, do the Jews ever kill anybody? I mean they don't tip, but their not evil! Just kidding! =)
I don't think that people are even understanding the question. It's multiple choice people. Of course it's quite possible for some regime, not a religious group, to have killed more people, but that's not the question. If someone asks what city has the highest population: Dallas, Houston, or Austion, you don't answer "Well, NYC alone has a higher population". Jeez

The first people were Hebrews/Israelites/Canaanites=God's Chosen People. Moses parted the Red Sea and after they all crossed, thousands and thousands of Egyptians drown(ed?). Throughout the OT there were millions of unfaithful people that died because God's Chosen People killed them or God destroyed them Himself (cities of Sodom and Gomorrah).
There were the Roman soliders that killed many men that the Jewish Rabbis ordered to be killed (crucifixed). After Christ ascended, there were thousands of Christians (Jesus followers) and Jews (still waiting for the Messiah) still fighting and killing each other and pagans.
Then Muhammad started up Islam. And millions of innocent people of been killed in the name of Islam by Islamics. Just like Christians killed other Christians killed other Christians. Killing over land and power and to say who it right.
I haven't taken a survey. I have counted the deaths. I'm sure it's probably equally close with all three. These 3 main religions have the same holy land origins. We all believe in the one and only Creator, be His name YVHV, God or Allah. We all believe we are descendents of Abraham. Judaism is the oldest religion. Islam is the newest. Christians believe they have Jesus as their Saviour. All 3 constantly talk that they are of love and want world peace. Yet I rarely see that on this site. But I'm glad I see it in the 'real world'.
So what is your point with your question? I don't think it's THE RELIGION that kills. I think it's the men that have corrupted the words of God or have either misinterpreted to make them make sense to them. God knows man are sinners. In the OT, God told His People to destroy certain cities and people that were unfaithful, that were getting in the way of His plan of salvation for His people. Maybe He is still doing this?
Do you honestly think that without religion(s), there would be nor killings? No wars? Man are humans and atheists are all angels :)

WRONG! WRONG! ! ! ! WRONG! ! ! !
All three are wrong! Even Hitler, with the "Holocaust" Myth, didn't kill as man people as Stalin and the Commies did, before, during , and after World War I I.
Even after the war was over, Stalin & the Commies killed over 20 million people in their purges of Eastern Europe and Asia, OVER THREE TIMES the total of Hitler & the Nazis. The total of the supposed "Holocaust" was 75+% Slavs, Eastern Europeans, and gypsies, and only about 10% Jews, if the real truth would ever be told, anyway.
But, because we had to live with the Commies, and not the Nazi Germans, the Nazis caught all the bad history when the revisionists got thru writing it all down!

Yes, you are no doubt correct about these three groups one way or another being responsible for more deaths. However, your comment about the middle east is incorrect in your context. It is proposed by theologians and science itself that the first beginnings of mankind took place somewhere in the north african area or not far from there. The people who were the first men in history did not travel far from their geographical origins before beginning a worship of the creator. The three religions you mentioned are off shoots of that basic relationship with God.

Of these 3, the Jews are out of the running. The Muslims killed the most the quickest, but the Christians certainly did their best to kill as many innocent people as possible. Religion just gives different reasons for doing what people like to do, which is kill others.

the reason they are the three that are most responsible is that they are the three biggest monotheistic religions in the world. And once you shift from the belief and the acceptance of many gods to there only being ONE your acceptance of other people's beliefs and their gods drops dramatically. And can easily increase the violence too. I mean, if you are polytheistic and believe in many gods what would you care if someone else has a different god. But it would be next to impossible to say which one killed more, and those that do have an answer, I'd be suspicious that they are prejudiced against whichever one they picked.

Men have killed most people.
It is not a question of religion. In this century we have seen that every extreme ideology is a potential danger to extremists' minds for doing what should not be done.
