My kitty who is around 9 months old has recently started playing obsessively with my cabinet doors. She has plenty of toys and we play often. Any ideas as to why and what I can do to make her stop? I lock her up at night in the bathroom and she plays with the doors in there too for a long time.

maybe I should mention that I live in a loft apartment..I have no bedroom door, if I did I would just close my door.

Your fur child has much in common with mine. Noise and motion are a powerful combination. Mine also like the dark and relative seclusion of the cabinets. If you have two or more doors with knobs close together, get a large produce rubber band and band them up. The other alternative is to go to the store and buy a cabinet child proofing (ha!ha!) kit. While toddlers will figure them out, cats do not.

Cat's are more active at night. So because you are locking her up at night in the bathroom, she's playing with the one thing in there she finds amusing. If she's able to open the doors you can use a baby proof lock. She would be happier if you didn't lock her up at night and left her some toys to play with. My two cats love playing during the night they play for a while before going to sleep.

Maybe she is starting to hate doors because you lock her up in the bathroom all night.
My two kitties 7 and 9 months old sleep at night, but sometimes the smaller one cries at 4-5 in the morning cause he wants me to stay up with him. So, if they disturb me, I lock MYSELF up in the bedroom, leaving them free to play and get tired and get to sleep again. They're cats, not dolls.. Sorry, just joking. A lot of people close there dogs or cats in small rooms but I'm sure they don't like that...

Cats are nocturnal. Play with your cat an hour before you go to bed to tire her out. Find a safe spare room to close her in instead of the bathroom with a litterbox available. Wake her up at the same time you get up to get her on a good schedule. Good luck!

There is a product for babies, locks the cabinet doors.
Search in the baby aisle in the store.

You could alwaya buy the locks to place on cabinets that you would place on the doors that parents buy to keep their toddlers out of the cabinets

She wants to probably get out from the bathroom. Let her free at night and shut the door to your bedroom. Thats what we do.

boredom- they are the funnest toy around. She may have picked up the habit because you lock her in there.
What you can do is get those kid proof cabinet locks- they actually work well for cats too.
