Phone a vet and ask for advice, they'll give it to you for free.

They'll probably suggest putting pressure on the wound with a clean cloth if it is bleeding. If it's not then washing it gently with warm salt water to get rid of any contamination will reduce the risk of infection. Don't hold him down if he won't let you though, it must be painful and unless it's covered in yuck it's probably best to let the vet sedate him to clean it when he goes.

When you take him to the vet they'll probably want to give him antibiotics and pain relief too.

If you have rabies in your area: is he vaccinated? I don't want to scare you but I have to ask.
Good luck, try to get him to a vet soon.

Don't let your dog shake his head. I am not sure how bad the ear is and how much is left but ears bleed bad but some of the time it is not as bad as it seems. Keep the dog relaxed and calm so his blood preassure stays low. Compress his ear with a clean cloth or larger guaze squares if u have them, and if u have any medical tape secure the guaze/cloth to his ear if it is bleeding bad. Clean off the wound to see how big the bite is. If it is just puncture wounds then it should stop soon although it will look like he has lost a lot of blood a puncture wound isnt a huge emergency and you can relax a little bit. But if there is a chunck missing then do what I stated above and when that boat gets fixed take him in, they will probably have to give him some antibiotics and put some better ontinment and bandage on the ear. Dont let him shake his head!!!

awww I feel so sad about your dog. If you can do you have any neosporin antibiotic used on humans do put on and place bandages on your poor dogs ears? First thing to do is clean off his ears and make sure the bleeding stops. Then put the neosporin on the bandages or something very clean and wrap around your dogs head to cover the ears that are missing. It is a crying shame your poor dog had this happen. Too bad there is no Humane Society to call and ask for help so you can have them come and take the dog to their vet. I do not know what state you live in but try and see if there is any humane society to call and beg for help.
I hope your dog will be fine soon.

Make sure you clean his ears with a mild soap and water to get the blood off. Then, using a cotton ball apply maybe a little peroxide diluted with water. It will sting him a little, but will help in stopping infection. Keep the wound from getting dried out and cracking and hurting by putting some antibiotic ointment or first aid cream on it. Make sure you apply it whenever his ears start to dry out. That should help until you can see a vet.

Good Grief! you mean you have NO way off this island??? Is this a serious question? I'll bite, incase it really is...
have you done anything with this poor dog? Ever think of possibly emailing a vet to get a suggestion?? is this poor thing bleeding yet? keep the area clean so it doesn't get infected...if you have any type of antibiotic ointment, that can't hurt...but keep it clean and wrapped if possible....

Any kind of salve applied to the wounds after cleaning them thoroughly will help. Even a patroleum jelly or Neosporin added generously will help with the pain and future infections. The animal will be ok. People get their dog's ears "cropped" all the time. It hurts, mbut it'll go away in about a week.

First clean your dogs ears really well with soap and water with out getting water in his ear canals and make sure he is in a place where he can't get them dirty. Then find out if the mean dog is current on his vaccinations so you can tell your vet when you get there. Dogs ears are more than decorative, but it won't hinder his life if he is missing parts of them.

Don't cry, it'll make it harder for you to take care of him. Do you have gauze? Get a sanitary napkin and stick it where the bleeding is and wrap it in gauze. Not too tight so that it restricts his breathing, but enough so it won't come off and so it will slow bleeding. Try to keep him calm as possible. Don't let him scratch them, whatever you do! If you can find one of those cone collars to put on him so he can't scratch, that would be a great help. just KEEP HIM CALM and get to the vet ASAP!! good luck!

oh yeah, if you don't have gauze, and old tshirt will work ok too. And try to dinsinfect it if you can!

Put pressure on the wound with a clean cloth. Keep your dog warm so he doesn't go into shock. Borrow someone else's boat and get your dog to a vet! Geez.
