My 2 and a half year old black lab keeps chewing the crotch out of my underwear. No matter where I put them once I've worn them, she does and eats them. I've gone through at least 40 pairs and its becoming an expensive, annoying habit.

Why does she keep eating my underwear? How can I get her to stop?

My dachsund did this when I lived at home. Get a clothes hamper with a lid or some other containment to prevent your Lab getting access to your dirty laundry. This is not an unusual behavior - but it is disgusting. It is up to you to keep your dog from your undies. I have no other alternative to suggest but this.

My vet at the time said that it is:
1. Your undies smell like you and that is why the dog does it.
2. Urine has mineral salts in it. Even as careful as you are to dry yourself, this can also be an attractant to dogs.
3. Remember, dogs would eat other animals' waste if given the opportunity (cat poo, etc) and limiting access is the best choice.

There is this wonderful thing called "Bitter Apple" in the Veterinary world it is put on bandages so dogs and cats don't chew out their catheters before surgery and after surgery. You might want to invest in a bottle, either from your Vet or a pet store should have some and grab a pair of underwear and spray some on, once she gets a taste of it, it should break her out of the habit.

Before you put them in the basket, pour some ammonia on them and your dog will find something else to amuse him self right away and the ammonia wont hurt your clothing,But make sure you have a lid of some kind so the ammonia smell cant escape,

My male dogs do the same thing. I've had to just make sure they stay out of the laundry room. I think it has something to do with them liking the smell. However, my sister's dog likes to take clean underwear into his house to sleep on them, so who knows.

I don't know why she does it, but if you wash them right away I bet she will stop. She probably just wants to be close to you and there is a lot of your "scent" on your underwear.

My papillon does that, too. I have absolutely no idea why... Except maybe the smell of it attracts them. I know, none of us want to admit that we have any sort of smell down there, but we all do and it's normal. You could try pantyliners? I've considered it, but it's not enough of a nuisance.

well my dogs think what is mine is theres. like my bras, stuffed animals, DVD's, sun glasses, shoes and as gross as it is they have taken my pads from the trash. they want whatever has our scent on it. Get a hamper and leave it in your closet! Spray bitter apple on the hamper to keep her away. I dont recommend spraying that on your undies!

I do not know why she eats your panties, but I would put them in a plastic bag after wearing them; and if you have a closed container, put the panties in there.
