I am the proud owner of an 8 mo old, tiger, calico kitten. She is a scrapper with a great temperment and is extremely and constantly curious, so naturally, this has "backfired" on her occasionally. Recently, in her curiousity, she knocked a pot down hanging near her food dish, and as expected, she is now frightened of that area. She eats, but is very cautious to do so with any noise around the kitchen. I'm worried b/c although she is progressively doing better, she was sick when young and it was hard enough to get her to eat initially, so I am worried this might recur. Any thoughts??

Move the food to a more "safe" location.

Put a little can of tuna in your kitchen and make sure your kitten sees it, once she is done snacking, play with her, give her some catnip toys and give her a lot of love an attention. Feed her everyday in the kitcken also... This way she associates the kitchen with fun and tasty treats, instead of scary noises and danger. Take a wooden spoon in your free time and bang on a few pots and pans ( not while she is eating ) and get her accustomed to the sound... Give her a toy in there to keep her busy while you are doing the dishes, and she will ignore the sounds...After a few weeks of this she will become used to it =)

Try putting the dish in a place she feels safe to eat so she can calm down. If you really want her dish in the spot you currently use, move it a little closer as she gets comfortable. Maybe change location of the pots. Cats have super hearing so what is loud to us must really cramp their style.

You can move her food to a quite area until she becomes a bit older and becomes more confident in herself, like to a quite bedroom, or even a bathroom if she is a messy eater.

Yeah, move the food dish away from that area.

Try feeding her some place else... then when she is back at ease, slowly move her bowl back in to the kitchen but take your time (several weeks).
By then she probably has forgotten all about it.
Good luck!

Maybe you can pick her up, pet her and place her by her food, still petting her as you do this...and stay by her while she eats and if she allows you to keep petting her while she eats, do so.
I'm sure she will be fine as time goes on...they frighten easily at that age.
