We can't figure out how to program just the 3 or 4 cities we want to listen to. We have the call numbers and the directions. Just can't seem to figure it out, way to many channels and banks, kinda confusing. We took it back to Radio Shack and they programmed it for us, but we got all 200 channels. I locked out some of the channels, but now it won't scan at all. Is there a handheld scanner out there that is easy to program and not way too expensive?

If it's not scanning at all, you probably not only locked out some channels, but shut off all the banks as well. I'd reset it so you have no channels and then just program in the frequencies of interest to you. Radio Shack these days has a computer that does it automagically which is why you got 200 channels filled up instead of just a few. In fact, many of their employees probably have no clue how to do it the old way. It's pretty easy to program, just as easy as any other scanner so getting another one isn't going to help you much. Just manually step through the channels and enter in the frequencies to program. The only ones that are more difficult are the trunking systems which must be programmed differently and occupy their own bank. Programming in trunking systems are difficult no matter what the scanner. You can try to get RS to only program in the ones you choose if they're not that busy.
