My friend is having seizures and the doctors say there is nothing worng with her and havent done any other tests to see what could be causing this. They have only done a spine tap. I was wondering can giving birth cause this to happen since your body changes and so do your hormones b/c these seizures started happening after se gave birth.

No, giving birth wouldn't have anything to do with seizures. There must be something going on with her brain. There are other tests they should be doing, besides the spinal tap. There is SOMETHING wrong if she's having seizures. She should continue to look for an answer. She may need to change doctors and get another opinion. There's an answer out there but she may have to push to get the care that she needs. Give her the support to keep going because it can be very discouraging.

Seizures related to giving birth can occur up to 8 weeks after the birth with/without pre-eclampsia. Because birth is a traumatic event for the body, even when all goes well, it can also be the trigger for a problem that was already there. I agree with the other poster-she should see a neurologist to find out if there is something she can do. Repeated seizures means something is WRONG!

The spinal tap only rules out certain things like bacterial infections.

Unless she already had a seizure disorder,or was "eclamptic" during her labor, there shouldn't be any reason why this started post natally . Hormone fluctuation"s usually does not cause "seizures". She needs to be worked up by a Neurologist ASAP,including CT and MRI scans to sort this out etc. You didn't describe the seizure, but that would be a clue to whats going on etc.If you witness the next seizure activity, take her to the ER,or call 911.Doing a spinal tap, doesn't usually diagnose a seizure unless she had a brain infection like Meningitis. I agree with Annie D. Giving birth will not allow for seizures to happen and yes, she needs to seek the medical advice of someone else who is qualified. It won't hurt to seek alternate opinions in this matter. Just conducting a spinal tap alone doesn't test for other potential problems which may be going on. Good luck to your friend Dear.

The only thing I can think of is maybe it runs in her family or high bp.Has she been check for either? But having a baby does'nt cause you to have seizures.Unless she has high bp.
