Usually a condition called Jaundice this affects the liver. It represents quite substantial liver damage. I would say get some blood work done check all liver function and also get an ultrasound of the liver. You may have hepatitis A,B or C. Another tell tell sign of Jaundice is the White part of a persons eye will be yellowish also. Please go to a doctor.

Some times some liver disease like jondus (sp?) or somethingelse perhaps to do with your liver...thats the only time ive ever heard of yellow-ish skin....if the whites of your eyes start to turn an odd shade of yellow go the the hospital as soon as you can.....grated you should probably go now just because your skin is turning yellow but if the whites of your eyes do that could be a serious problem

When that happens it could be jaundice similar to what a baby gets. Usually from an undeveloped liver.
In an adult, who knows. Liver problems perhaps. Severe discolouration in adults is usually from liver damage caused by years of heavy drinking, Hepatitis C.
I would get checked by a physician.

a yellowish skin is caused by bilirubin in the blood which are deposited in the skin. usually this indicates a blood disorder or in the gall bladder. bilirubin is part of a healthy blood. when a red blood cell(rbc) dies, it forms into many components. one of its component is bilirubin.
premature destruction of rbc or hemolysis can cause yellowish skin because the rbc are normally destroyed after 120 days. they are destroyed in the spleen. then the rbc's components are then transfered from the spleen to the gall bladder. it is then mixed to form into a bile. bile is used to emulsify fat. after fat is emulsified, it is then excreted from the body.
bilirubin gives the feces its yellowish-brownish coloration.
to identify if you have a problem in your gallbladder, the color of the feces is turned to clay-colored.

Jaundice is a disease of the gall bladder that causes you to have yellow skin. It is an overproduction of bile in the body.
