I have enlisted in the Navy, and when they did the FBI background check on me, a warrant for my arrest showed up, because of a misdemeanor charge form 1998 for a theft under $300. I did not complete my 24 hour comm. serv, so I assume that is what the warrant is for. But when my recruiter and I call around to state police, court houses, central processing station, and District attny's, they all say I have no warrant on file, but obviously the FBI has a warrant out for me. I need to get this resolved before I can leave for basic training in June, where and how can I get info on this warrant?

the F.B.I. is not involved in your warrant. the F.B.I. data base was used in the military search for records. you need to contact the clerk of courts in your hometown where the arrest and court appearance took place and explain your situation. it may be something as simple as a data entry error or you may well have an outstanding warrant, but its not federal.

The FBI would not maintain the warrant for a failure to complete community service. That warrant would be available through the court having jurisdiction over the offense that resulted in your conviction with the penalty of community service imposed.

When a warrants check is conducted, the information comes from the FBI's database known as NCIC.

Contact the Clerk of the Courts Office in the jurisdiction where the offense was adjudicated and thats where you'll find your warrant.

Often times the court will "forgive" any further action because you've attempted to enlist.

You can either contact a local attorney to assist you or contact the courts yourself explaining your issue. They will be more than happy to guide you through the problem with the best solutions!

Best wishes.

The FBI doesn't have a warrant for you, if they did they would have you. If you know you did not finish your time then call the police department who arrested you. That court will have issued the warrant. If they say you do not have one, you need to get a letter from that department stating you have nothing outstanding with them. The recruiter should know this they deal with it all the time. The department can provide this letter. If you truly do not have anything then the agency who entered the warrant has to clear it through NCIC - the Feds manage NCIC which is a national database on warrants, stolen property, etc.
