I work at a law firm and my boss just warned me that an older attorney is planning to come by this afternoon and ask me out. He's old, fat, balding and an idiot. What do I do?!?!?!?

Honesty is the best policy here. Tell him no, im not interested in being in a relationship right now. feel free to add 'with you' under your breath. Please make clear that this is not a subject up for debate or that your mind could be changed in the future. & don't say you're flattered, because your not. Your really not.

Depending on if you have to see this person ever again at the workplace, say something to the effect that you are very flattered but you are in an "on and off" relationship right now. He may know that you are not married and possibly not dating anyone in particular (men do talk too), but they don't have to know about your "so called" long distance relationship with someone "no one" knows about from "way back when", or you could be in an "on and off" relationship with the tv set. He doesn't have to know the particulars. This way you are acknowledging his "come on" and gently letting him down. Saying things like "i'm not interested" or "get lost" may be how you feel inside but you want to maintain a more diplomatic relationship when dealing with colleagues, co-workers, vendors, etc. Stating that you are married, etc., will only come back to haunt you at times (you know, being percieved as a liar) and your boss may not believe your words in the future. Good luck.

Well, there are a couple of options here.

First, you could go on the date and see what the guy is like outside of the office environment.
Second, simply tell him you are not dating right now.
Third, hide!!

I think the only real option is to be open and respectful. Acknowledge an individual's good points but be clear that they have values that are different from yours (such as diet, intelligence, age range differences, etc.)

You'll be fine :)

Tell him that your boyfriend is the really jealous type. That he doesn't like you going out with other men, even if it is business. Just explain that offices are just for business, nothing more.
Of course, this could be a misunderstanding. Did your boss mean that the other attorney wanted to date you or could it be an innocent business luncheon?
Don't put your foot in your mouth until you are sure.

Again I have experience in this, but from the other end I'd bet he'd take it better if you said something like what other people have said and say that your seeing someone already or make an excuse as he being a work collegue but a simple No can be like a dagger in the heart.

First of all it is what is on the inside not the outside. You sound very shallow but to protect the other persons feelings just let them know you prefer not to date people who work in the same place because it could end badly! Try to make sure you don't mention it is really because he is bald or fat! Please be considerate to other peoples feelings!

just tell him you are flattered but you are currently seeing someone. Well that'll work if he doesn't know your private life.

if not, say your flattered but you prefer to not date co-workers mixing your professional life with your personal life.

All fails when he asks just throw up on the old, fat, balding idiot!!! Lol

good luck

Be completely honest with him. Tell him that your not interested and that you both stay on a professional level. You don't need to tell him anything else. Say I'm flattered but,,,,, no thank you.

well you answer of no shouldn't be based just on looks, but just tell him that your not looking for a relationship, you could say you don't date within the work place, makes things to complicated.
