why do people read less today than in the past?

TV in the first place, but I think ppl on YA read a lot, at least the questions of others. As for books, I can only say that personally I read a lot.

As it turns out, that's not true. In fact, people read MORE now than they did in the past. The difference is now the words are typically on a screen instead of on paper, and interest in the classics is not so great -- the classics were great for their time but most of them are so much garbage any more. I read the first five pages of The Great Gatsby and handed the book back to the teacher and told her to just give me the F for the nine weeks because I refused to read such horrible crap.

Because it is not the primary communications method now. TV, radio, films and computers have filled that. However it is still the most important media

Internet, TV, CD's, radio, movies, DVD's, sports, busy lives, heavy work loads, less time for leisure, more time spent on the freeway.

because they think that there is no need of books as there are computers,tution teachers and all but they don't know that the world without books and reading is like an orange without the inner part.We are the outer covering and on reading books we develop our inner part
