As an American sponsering her visit what do i need to do??

Your friend will need to apply for a visa at the US consulate in the nearest city where there one in Brazil

When she applies you must have a letter from you , with your address in the US saying that you are inviting her for a certain number of days and that you will be responsible for all her expenses. If you feel uncomfotable able that she must supply her bank statement .
The Consul must be sure that she will return to Brazil.

I think you can get a petion or something like it saying that you will be responsible for her for a certain period of time, Lets say she /he comes for 15 days.. and you get approved.. she/he comes for 15 days then she/he has to go back to Brazil.... I would check with a immigration lawyer.. I plan to do that later this year with my grandma.. That's the other thing... I don't know if you can do that for a friend or just family member!!!
