Yes, normally April is the hottest month of the year. April 13 is Songkran (water splashing) Day and Thai New Year. People celebrate NY by watering the senior and elderly people to wish them long lives and happiness. Thai people will pour water into the senior and elderly hands and ask for their blessing.
On the street people will splash water to each other to cool the day. Yes, it's really but with water pouring on your shoulder then you'll be shivering and relieve from the heat of the day.
Temp may rise to 37-8 in Bangkok and may rise to 40 in some provinces but only a few hours in the afternoon and then cool down to 30 in the evening. Don't worry, I've survived living here for many years without problem. Stay in the shade under the tree orgo the air cond. deparetment store.

Sure it is but you will enjoy yourself if you are somewhere around the beach areas. There are plenty of beaches around the Gulf of Thailand also at Phuket, Krabi or Phanga on . Don't be scared of the heat in Thailand it is normal as it is the tropical country.

went last april and the few days in bangkok wernt too bad, was over 35 though for 3 - 4 days, in pattaya and the islands nearby there was regular to be over 40 every day.
I dont know ehere you are from but im English, i NEVER had experienced the heat like that, just take the usual precautions. If you travel with kids get some flu stuff for them (lowers there temp), and for god sake take drink drink and drink

I think really hot is an understatement for Bangkok and Chiang Mai which together with High rises and traffics, the heat is just almost unbearable. (not to mention humidity and pollution). Though, if you go to beach areas or islands, the breeze helps cool it down.

It is hot, but it is also the start of the rainy season so you can expect high humidity as well.
