Thats the easy part about training a dog.
Clip a leash on its collar. Let it walk around the house dragging it around for awhile. When it gets used to that,
pick up the end of the leash and let your dog lead you around for awhile, say good dog a lot and feed it a lot of treats. The trick is to only give it the treats when it is walking with it's head even with your heel.
Repeat for a few days. Thats all it takes.

Dog Behaviorist in San Jose. You can call me.... 831-915-9008 The best way to learn how to walk a dog on leash is to ask someone who has the patience and assertiveness to make a/any dog obey. This is an art that I would love to share with people that are interested. As easy as it seems, it's not. 90% of communication between dog and human comes from leash training ( the walk). We get to give excersise while exerting leadership. The walk is the primal form of excersise for canines, and to do it correctly is rewarding for both us and our animal comanion... Please don't hesitate to call with any ?'s regarding dogs.

work with ur dog--walk it everyday and discipline it to not get ahead but stay beside of u. There is a point at the top of the dog's thigh and it's chest if u place ur hand and apply slight pressure the dog listen a lot better. Got this tip from "The Dog Whisperer" off TV. Let the dog know ur the boss by ur tone of voice and being relaxed and calm.

If the dog jump out in front of you and doesn't stay beside you he thinks he is the "leader of your pack" and you have to get the dog to realize you are boss. Don't go "coochie coochie cooooo" to your dog as that is rewarding your dogs bad behavior. Be strict and make your dog behave. You might have to have your dog sit a lot. Stop when ever the dog is being bad. Only walk when the dog is walking beside you. This might take awhile. Watch the show GoodDog on TV if it is on in your area. It is worth it!

You need to use a short leash at first and tease them with a dog treat and give him one.. then put the treat in front of the dogs nose while on the leash and he will walk straight on the leash.. do that for a while and eventually he will not mind being on the leash..

I am a certified dog trainer, so if you live in the New York City area, I could help you. I would suggest getting a trainer who doesn't use food rewards. You want your dog to bond wih you instead of food. You can find my info at www.thepoochparade.com

We got our dog walking on the leash with treats... I put her on the leash, and got her to pay attention to me by calling her name and making eye contact and then treating her. I would then wait until she wasn't paying attention and turn saying "lets go" and as soon as she looked at me and responded, I treated. It worked really well. Now she walks on the leash like a champ! Just be careful if your dog starts pulling. Mine did, and I would just stop, ask her to sit, wait a few moments (like 30 seconds) until she would calm down, and then start walking her again. You just have to be sure to make them sit until they are calm! And stop anytime they even start to pull on the leash! Molly and I now go for walks every day and are constantly complemented on her good behavior.

If you have problems- Pet Smart has a neat training program and its cheap!

There are a few real keys to dog training, whether you are trying to train your dog to come when called, sit, stop barking or any other behavior. Understanding their importance is critical to achieving rapid results that are long lasting and help develop the bond between you and your dog. Learn more http://OnlineDogTraining.enle.info/?1k3t

The first is simple; you must win your dogs mind. If you don’t achieve this first then you will be struggling the all the way. When I talk about winning your dogs mind what I really mean is that your dog looks to you for all the decisions. Before you do anything else watch one of the amazing video sites that show you the 5 Golden rules to establishing yourself as the pack leader. If you aren’t putting these in place then you are setting yourself up to fail. Just at the crucial point where you really want your dog to listen they will go and do their own thing. For sure your dog may play ball occasionally or even most of the time, you may even have a dog that is obedient 99% of the time, however if you want a dog who always listens to you and does as you ask then you need to win your dogs mind.

The second key to success is to motivate your dog. It is really important that you discover what it is that your dog enjoys both in terms of exercise and play but also in terms of a reward. If you can make the experience enjoyable then you will both achieve more and look forward to training.

Some dogs love to fetch, others love agility, and other dogs simply love obedience training, or swimming out into water and retrieve. At least to start with find out what your dogs love is and help them develop this, what I am saying is work with your dog. The other point to recognize is to make training enjoyable reward your dog.

the only way to make the dog walk on a leash properly is to let it get used to it you cant just throw something around its neck and expect it to know what to do.
