What they had me do was send me to MEPs in the afternoon/evening, sleep in a hotel (paid by them), and then get my physical and oath the next day. You'd be surprised how fast they can ship you.

Yes, normally if you are going to MEPS you need to be there by 0400 in the morning and stay until 1600. Plenty of time. About you going to boot camp it all depends on the service you choose. I know the Navy is booked many months in advance and it is a really unique situation to be able to go that quickly anymore. It all depends and if that is your intent you will need to ask the recruiter to call MEPS and ask the classifier if they have a seat for boot campm and jobs available following boot camp for the time period you want to go. Those are the two things that will tell you your answer. If there aren't any open seats for boot camp in May and then a seat in school for whatever job you choose, you won't be going to boot camp and or getting the job you want. Without the phone call to MEPS from your recruiter you will never know the exact answer to this question.

I was in for 6 yrs and dealt with a lot of "newbies". You can take the ASVAB now, look at the jobs you qualify for, but definitely research what they are. You don't have to do everything in 1 day. For me, I took the ASVAB in high school, signed up for the dep program, which they have activities to make you go up to E-3 ( I wasn't informed of that though) and then got taken to a hotel then the processing began at 4 am, hopped on a plane and I slept in a compartment with 84 people that night. Take your time because like most of the advice on here, you don't want to regret your decision for the next 4-5 yrs and feel trapped and not be able to do anything for it. Your recruiters are in your hands, and even though they have the uniform on, right now, they work for you, so however long you want to take or however much info you want to extract from them, just let them know. It's your life and you're an addition to their quota and personal evaluations.

Normally they will have you take the ASVAB first, this will see what you qualify for. Then after they score it, believe you have to wait a few days or so, (its been awhile since I went in.) You will then come to an aggrement on which field you will want to go with. Once you have decided, they will set you up for a physical, and If I remember correctly, I did my physical and oath the same day. Regardless, if you get on it right now, Id say you can be "Heel too toe" by May.

You can. It is always two trips to MEPS. The fist trip was ASVAB, light physical, and paper work. The second time is the day they are sending you to basic which you take the oath. I joined in April 24,2001 and was in basic May 5,2006. I'm sure you can get it done in a month. Good luck

You need to take the ASVAB, they will score it there and give you a print out of your score. What happens if you cant get the job you want with your ASVAB score? I suggest taking it a little slower than what you want to take it, its not something to just jump into. I say take the ASVAB, and then talk to your recruiter about what you can do, and then go back to MEPS for everything else.

You got a lot to learn about the military. Have you never heard of the slogan, "hurry up and wait"? From the time you take your physical and other tests, to the time you actually begin basic training could be a month or longer. To complete basic training takes about another two month. There is a chance you may get to basic training by late May, but I would not depend on it.

I wouldnt move that fast if i were you. Im in the Army (3 years so far) and I would reccomend you make sure this is what you want to do. I went back 5 different times to get my MOS and I never regretted joining once but you HAVE to make sure you want it. Take your time and talk to other people who have been where you wanna go.
