I think it's time you have a conversation about the subject.

Sure, go ahead and tell him you want one and that he better give you one, then tomorrow you can ask us why he broke up with you.
How about doing something different. Buy him an engagement ring. The engagement ring was invented by jewelers to get more money and make women think they have to have it in order for their relationship to be meaningful. The whole ring thing is pure BS. Women think about it from this point of view, do you really want a price tag on love and what it is supposed to mean.

What kind of promise? That your willing to wait till your too old to have a family, or until he tires of you and moves on leaving you high and dry. Just asking.
Two years ago you should have received an engagement ring, not a promise. The wedding plans should have already been completed and you should have had your honey moon.

Just because you've been dating your guy for 4 years, it doesn't mean you should get a ring now or ever. He gave you a promise ring. My analogy, in court, people swear to tell the truth, but they lie. I have known people who have gone out for 19 years and finally got engaged good luck you need to sit back and analyze the situation and find out what his intents really are. You could suggest to your b/f that you want to get married, but you may scare him off

Absolutely not! It sounds like you are too focused on getting an object rather than the relationship. You are still too immature for marriage.....go buy yourself a ring so you can be happy, but let this poor guy go.

No not until he is ready. Just be happy with the relationship. You don't need to be married to be committed, it is just a symbolic thing. It does not change anything. So what is the rush? Quit worring about marriage and have fun. Good Luck

What do you both expect out of the relationship? Talk to him. Then decide what you are going to do. Do you love him? Does he love you? Is marriage more important or love or something else. How does he answer these questions.

depends are you happy and ready for marriage, its a big thing to undertake you both need to be adult enough to realize if your ready for this step. marriage is not to be taken lightly by no extreme. if your not ready for it then get over it either stay in the relationship or move on,,
