I recomend Innova Evo Dog Food. It contains No Grain (so there wont be any recalls on corn nor does it have any fillers like wheat gluten ...lol) and its High Protein and Low Carb. Its made by Natura Pet. It contains fruits and veggies which contain health promoting phytochemicals and micronutrients. Fresh whole milk, cottage cheese and whole clove garlic add natural vitamins and flavor. Alfalfa sprouts help satisfy your pet's natural urge to graze. Natural cold-pressed sunflower oil provides the high quality fatty acids needed for healthy skin and a shiny hair coat.
When comparing Innova to any other dog food, notice the following ingredients which Innove Evo refuses to use: Meat Meal, Animal Fat, Poultry By-Products, Soybean Meal, Rice and Wheat Gluten, Wheat Mids, Peanut Hulls, Wheat Flour, Wheat Bran, Rice Flour, BHA, BHT, Ethoxyquin, Artificial Colors or Flavors, or any other substandard, low quality, by-product from human food processing. Its the closest food on the market to a Raw Diet.
Natura Pet also makes California Natural and Health Wise which are excellent foods. Evo comes in Cat and Ferret foods too!
** I used to sell Royal Canin Dog Food. It has a food made specially for Chihauhau. I'm including the link so you can check it out..

I would go with the Nutro Small Bites or the Nature's Recipe for Toy Breeds. They both look like decent quality foods and I'm not sure why you would want to feed the terrier formula.

The Dog Food Project is an excellent resource for information on healthy feeding.

Hello,

Take a look at Blue Buffalo, sold only at Petsmart. It's THE HEALTHIEST brand out there! Especially with the wet can food recalls lately. They suspect that it was the wheat gluten that was making dogs and cats sick and killing them. Blue Buffalo WAS NOT affected by this recall at all, because Blue’s products (dry food, wet food, and biscuit treats) DO NOT contain any WHEAT, CORN, or SOY. These are known to be the top fillers and also known allergens with dogs and cats. I know, because my little Toy Fox Terrier is allergic to wheat. Her allergy was so bad, that she lost the hair around her eyes and her eyes watered constantly. Once I put her on Blue, the hair grew back and I've never had a problem since. Blue Buffalo also does NOT contain any BYPRODUCTS. Their food is made with 100% human grade ingredients. It's a very healthy and holistic food for pets, without being fancy about it. It's just down to basic nutrition and science. There are also NO ARTIFICAL PRESERVATIVES, FLAVORS, COLORS, ANTIBIOTICS OR STEROIDS. Some of their ingredients include, whole grains (like whole ground brown rice, whole ground barley, and oatmeal), vegetables (whole sweet potatoes, whole carrots, and whole garlic cloves), herring/fish oil (good in omega 3:6 fatty acids which are good for healthy skin and coat), flaxseed (also good in omega 3:6 fatty acids), green tee extract (antioxidant), Lactobacillus Acidophilus (yogurt to help maintain healthy stomach bacteria), glucosamine (good for joints and tendons to prevent arthritis {only in adult bags})…..etc. Check them out. Both Petsmart and Blue Buffalo gives a 100% satisfaction guaranteed even on opened bags (just keep your receipt).

well, those foods are WAY better than kibbles and bits. i'm also sure someone is going to recommend beneful, because for some reason a silly ad and some fake vegetebles in the kibble make people think it is a good food. like kibbles and bits, beneful is mostly CORNMEAL! both are garbage.

petco and petsmart carry some decent foods. just read the labels. if the first ingredient is anything but meat, it isn't a high quality. if corn appears in the first five ingredients, i wouldn't feed that either. dick van pattens Natural balance is a good kibble that is carried by petco where i live. i'd recommend that.

Here is a list of the recalled dog food on this website:

Nutro Natural Choice is on the recall list but I don't know if that would include dry dog food. To be on the safe side, here is a list of the top ten dog foods from "Whole Dog Journal"

I give up on all the fancy expensive foods. I have 2 chihuahua's, my female is preg. They didn't like iams, thank goodness. i feed purina puppy chow. my dogs are thin. if they get heavy i'll change that. The best rule is get a food thats ingredients start with meat, chicken is good. corn is just fattening. You can make your own, look online. you can add a bit of water and cooked veggies, egg whites, cottage cheese, chicken. Just don't let the dog get over weight.just a tip, petsmart is expensive. The large groc. chains carry the name brands.

Science Diet is junk. Read the ingredients, they speak for themselves. KNOW what you are looking for. If you have BY Products as an ingredient you are feeding your dog heads, feet, and intestines. By Products is simply the leftovers. Ground yellow corn is a filler. It is not digestable. If you have a corn base make sure it is corn gluten meal. this is the white part from inside the kernal. It is actually counted as a protein instead of a carb. The Natural choice small bites lamb and rice is an excellent food. 3.50% linolic acid, all natural amd 450 mg glucosomine. That is your best choice out of the three.

I didn't click on your link, but I think I will no longer buy dog food from a petstore. You should see if fetchdelivery.com delivers to your area (free delivery!)

Additionally, did you know that PetSmart has be cited by PETA as being cruel to their small animals (birds, reptiles, bunnies, ferrets, rodents, etc).

It's good to know that people care about what they feed their pets! Good for you!!

Consider putting your dog on the raw diet. I have my two mastiff dogs on it and they are extremely healthy. I feed them raw beef that is ground and when you add up the dollars, it is cheaper than kibble from the pet stores. They also get a raw egg mixed in topped with raw carrots, cooked pasta, hot dogs, anything like that on top. We also make them liver treats from scratch. Everything I have read and been told is "only feed your pets what you would eat". We were safe during the recent pet food scare. Thank goodness for the raw diet. Our dogs are safe and eating healthy. Read up on it and see what you think. We are glad we did the research

These are all Menu Foods brands. I don't trust them at the moment even for dry food. My vet suggested Purina One among the store brands. Maybe you can try that. Good luck.

EDIT: Here's a link to a brand I give my dog (Natural Balance). She really likes it and the guy at Petco, who tasted it at a pet conference, said it's good.
