Humour me as my husband does not believe me!! Orange smarties taste of orange don't they?? I even did a taste test blind folded (he gave me 1 and 4 out of 4 smarties to try and trick me) and I got it right but he insists I'm cheating - they do taste of orange don't they? (Yes I know we're daft)

Smarties are brightly colored, sugar coated sweets with a milk chocolate center. The mix comprises eight colors - red, yellow, orange, green, mauve, pink, brown and blue. The orange sweet has orange flavoring in the chocolate center

Smarties were introduced in 1937 as "Chocolate Niblet Beans" by Rowntree's of York and renamed as Smarties in the following year. They became known as "Nestlé Smarties" in 1993, five years after the company Rowntree Mackintosh was acquired by Nestlé. Smarties are still manufactured in York but production is now moving to Germany, where currently a third of them are already made.
In the original range of colours, there was a light-brown Smartie. This was replaced in 1988 with the blue Smartie. Before 1958, the dark-brown Smarties had a plain-chocolate centre, while the light-brown one tasted of coffee. The orange Smarties contained, and still contain, orange-flavoured chocolate.

hmmm tough one maybe i cant taste the difference between the orange ones cause the only way to eat a tube of smarties is pop the lid and open your mouth and pour them straight in bliss i love smarties

You might be what they call a supertaster (real medical condition!). Because Smarties use natural colourings, it may taste of orange. I personally don't taste orange, but that's because I'm not a supertaster. If you have a problem with very bitter foods, you probably have a heightened sense of taste. (Lucky You!)

They all taste of chocolate to me!! I can't see how they taste of orange because the shell is just made form sugar and colourings among other things,but no flavourings based on fruits!!

I have honestly got a packet here and they really are the nicest and taste of oranges - the reddy brown colour taste fowl though.
