Based on medical advances through research on space, is the funding of the space program justified? Why or why not?

yes it is justified. Because when we use up the resources on earth, we must find other ways to move on and go to other planets or places.

Justification for the space program depends on whether you are considering the short term or long term. In the short term, you can never justify spending money on research. There will always be immediate needs that seem like they should be a higher priority.

If you look long term (hundreds of years ahead), then justification for space exploration becomes easier. It is a foregone conclusion that the Earth will be hit by a significant meteor or comet sometime in the future. Our species may be wiped out unless we find a way to warn ourselves in enough time and also develop a solution to save the human race. If space exploration had never provided the inspiration to develop rockets, how could we protect ourselves from extinction?

You all are not being realistic if you think our species will ever be capable of inhabiting another planet.
Fact: no other planet in our solar system is inhabitable,
Fact: an unmaned (does't need food or water) satellite takes
9-10yrs. to reach PLuto, the closest inhabitable planet
(location yet unknown) is at least that far.
Now that we've got that in mind, I don't see how we could possibly be spending ENOUGH on the space program
The total of all things known to date, if stacked next to the vastness of knowledge that await us in space, would resemble a BB on the ground as viewed from the moon

fact.

Yes its justified, not only because of medical advances but also because we are going to need a new planet to live on in a few years :)

If it wasn't for space travel we wouldn't be able to time jocks down to the one hundredth of a second
