It hurt for me but I had a c-section. If this is the case it will hurt no matter what you do. I think it only hurt for a few days after.

I think it depends on if you tore or had an episiotomy. I had a 3rd degree episiotomy and even with a stool softener, I was in A LOT of pain...I needed to have a BM, but because of the pain, I just couldn't for about 2 days. I wish that kind of pain on NO ONE! God bless, hope everything goes well!

I never heard THAT! I have a 7 month old and my bowel movements after birth were normal.

Honestly, yes, it could be uncomfortable. You could take a stool softener if you're really worried though. I only gave birth to one of my four kids vaginally and I do remember worrying about it just like you. However, you'll get through it, I promise!

I had a repeat C-section, and let me tell you, the gas was horrible. No matter what I did I couldn't get it out, they were giving me stool softeners, suppository the nurse even gave me a enema (wouldn't recommend). When I finally went it didn't hurt as bad as the gas! Good luck.

It can....did they give you a stool softener before leaving the hospital? If not I suggest calling your doctor and getting one or you can just buy them at your local store(Walmart, Target, ect.) They usually give colace or peri colace.

Colace® Stool Softener Products
The active ingredient in Colace® Stool Softener – docusate sodium – is not a stimulant but a stool softener that allows water and fats to enter the stool, which helps soften fecal material, making natural defecation easier.

Indicated for the treatment of occasional constipation, Colace® Stool Softener Products are available as:

Colace Capsules
Colace Syrup
Colace Liquid 1% Solution

Peri-Colace® Tablets contain docusate sodium and standardized senna concentrate – a stool softener plus a stimulant laxative – for use in the treatment of occasional constipation when more than just a stool softener is required.

Almost as much as giving birth unfortunately, make sure to take a stool softener like peri colace, its expensive but it will help!

While it may not be the most comfortable thing to do, it will help if you try to relax when you get the urge. Dont put it off. Also after one of mine the doctor(female) put me on stool softeners. I was breast feeding. This made it a lot easier. Also try to eat foods that are high in fiber. Good Luck.

I had almost three days of labor then an emergency c-section. I was also nervous, but the hospital gave me stool softeners, and it wasn't painful at all.

Congratz on your new baby!

If you had stitches, then yes, it will hurt. They should have given you a stool softener which will really help. Be sure to drink lots of water and have lots of fiber to keep things "soft".
