My Mom and Dad (age 58 & 63) applied for new passport and got them issued on 15.01.2007. The new passport has all the pages blank apart from the first and the last page which has a basic and mandatory information. They would be travelling to Middle East on Visit Visa in 10 days. Do they needt to have the ECNR Stamp??

ECNR (Emigration Check Not Required):
No clearance required for:
- Bangladesh, Pakistan, Europe (except Commonwealth of Independent States), North America, Japan, New Zealand, Australia, Thailand, Singapore, South Korea, and South Africa.
- all professional degree holders
- all holders of diplomatic/official passports
- persons holding permanent immigration visas (UK, USA, Australia)
- all persons above age 60

ECR (Emigration Check Required):
With an ECR stamp, if the person is leaving the country for non-employment purposes, s/he can obtain suspension of (citing special circumstances) from the Protector of Emigration.

Based on the details given above ... including what you listed about your parents ... your Dad should have an ECNR stamp and your Mom ~might~ require an ECR stamp, since she's still under 60.
