I'm trying to decide between two styles of wedding dresses. One is more practical while the other is more fashionable.

Dress #1 is a strapless, A-line satin ballgown with a fitted bodice. Dress #2 is a satin sheath dress (slightly flared toward the hem) with a halter top and a low back.

Part of me likes Dress #1 because it wouldn't require "creative" shaping undergarments and I could just wear a strapless bra. I wouldn't figet with the dress all day, which is nice. My only problem with Dress #1 is that it reminds me too much of a prom dress.

Dress #2 is appealing because it reminds me of "old Hollywood" glamour and would be more form-fitting. I'm hesitant about Dress #2 because it would require double-sided tape or some outrageous bra. Also, I'm sort of self-conscious about my midriff so I would need shapewear underneath.

For background, I'm 24, just shy of 5'8" and basically an hourglass shape (proportional hips and, um, chest.) I weigh about 150 pounds.

If you are not comfortable in the dress, you will be miserable. Most of your day will be standing, posing for pictures, and leaning over to hug people. If you're sucking in your tummy when you stand, moving awkwardly to keep the tape from moving around, and always worrying about standing in the most flattering way for your pictures, you will not have a good time. Go for the dress you can move the most comfortably in, with a minimum of supportive undergarments.

And there are tons of dresses like dress #1 that does not look like a prom dress. And there are lots of dress #2s that look like nightgowns. Regardless of which shape you choose, you'll find one that you like the look of.

Lets be honest, you want to look your best on the big day. If you have any kind of lump or bump it will show in #2, if you have a shaper underneath that is not PERFECT for that dress and you can see a line where it stops....it just looks that much worse. You dont want to be the bride where everyone is talking during the ceremony about how the dress is all wrong....you want them to think how fabulous you look!

I say keep looking! www.theknot.com had a HUGE gallery of dresses that might help.

What about finding a compromise between the two dresses?

You should be able to find a dress that captures the "old Hollywood" look I can tell you like so much but still makes you look like the Princess you should be on your big day!

Good Luck!

Well I think that you should go with dress 2, who cares if you need double sided tape, and shapewear underwear. If its going to make you happy on your day, I say go for it! ANd you've already had your prom, so although dress 1 may be nice, the way you described dress to, "Old Hollywood Glamour" says in its self that you really like it!!

Congrats, and have a great wedding day!
Bye

I'm a dj and all the wedding receptions that I've been hired to dj the reception, the most popular that I've seen so far is dress #1. You might want to do something more creative, that is away from today's norm like wearing the "traditional" old- style wedding dress.

I would say go with the one taht you will be comfortable in, You will be wearing if for several hours and you want to have fun and not worry about your dress. If the A line makes you thing of prom look for a similar dress with a train on it.

I would defenitly go for comfort, you have to remember that you will be wearing the dress for more than a few minutes. If you're uncomfortable is it really worth it to have a great looking dress? I would prefer #1 and know i can move freely and without any complications.

Dress 2. Strapless dresses are really on the way out - and they make all the brides look the same. Your bridal shop will help you with proper undergarments.

I would go with dress #2. You def. don't want something that reminds you of your prom dress. This is a big day and you want something different. Remember you'll only wear it once so I wouldn't worry so much about it being comfortable.

Dress #1 seems like it would be more comfortable for you than Dress #2.
