Since it is from a rescue, I'd be willing to bet this is bordetella (aka kennel cough). In older dogs, this is usually a self-limiting illness and will just run it's course. However, in puppies it is very serious and can lead to pnemonia, etc. You need to get the dog to a vet. If it is just a cough, and it hasn't affected the pups eating and playing habits, you've caught it in time and antibiotics will take care of it. But you must get the antibiotics! If not, it will certainly lead to something much more severe (and faster than you thought it could). In puppies it can lead to death. Don't panic! He sounds just fine, but by this weekend, he could get much, much worse. Take him to the vet and get him on antibiotics to kick this things butt asap.!

We have a 16 week old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. It has had a bad respiratory infection. I assume it is Kennel cough, since I know that another puppy from the breeder had the same thing. He has been vaccinated against the infection, but he still has it!!

Briar has been to the vet 3 times. He is now on his 3rd antibiotic. Some strains of this infection can be very difficult to get rid of. He is now on Cefa-drops and I am giving him nebulizer treatments at least 3 times a day. I am worried about him, but he is getting better finally!!

I would immediatley take him to the vet. Since you rescued him from a shelter, it is highly likely that he was exposed to kennel cough (Bordatella.) The vet will know what is best for your new puppy!! Good luck!

If it came from a rescue centre, she will have been in contact with other dogs. I would take her to the vet to check for kennel cough. This is like bronchitis for dogs. It can be treated and innoculated against in case of future visits to the kennels.

Infectious Trachea-Bronchitis - most commoningly known as kennel cough (but not strictly to do with catching it in kennels) sounds very croaky, deep cough - as if constantly pulling on the lead. It is highly contagious to other dogs but certainly not a killer in any aged dogs. It will pass on it's own in about 6 weeks time but I personally would take to a vet to rule out anything else being the problem.

Kennel cough is an upper respitory infection and must be treated by a vet. It can be very bad for a pup to have this. I'd get it to the vets as soon as you can.

Take him to the vets - if it is a hacking type of cough, then this would sugegst kennel cough. Sometimes, kennel cough can clear up on its own, but sometimes a course or antibiotics and cough suppressents are needed.

It does sound as though your pup has kennel cough, ring your vet and he will give you an appointment to go down, it is better than ignoring it as it is a respatory infection that will need a dose of anti biotics. good luck.x

It is probably kennel cough, dogs get it from other dogs when there are lots of dogs together, it is contagious. It is extremely bad for puppies so you should go to the vet immediately to get medicine for it. I believe you have to give them pills or something. I hope it feels better! :)
