I'm not sure I'm using the best type of toothbrush; but, my mother told me dentists aren't allowed to reccommend one.

Yes dentist can recommend toothbrushes. This is part of their job. Even the dental hygenist can recommend a toothbrush. They will tell you what brand, what kind and what type of bistles are best for YOUR mouth.

I asked my dentist about certain brushes, he said they were all the same. That those modern battery driven ones too are of no extra use.
I trust him. Some get something from the company whom they recommend.
I too think they are NOt allowed to recommend.

My dentist always makes recommendations...I don't see a problem with it. Just ask.
