I have a female brendel ptt that is about 10 months old. I am wondering when she will go into her first heat?? I plan to breed her with another brendal pit/english mix. I want to wait til she's gone through it at least 3 times before i let them breed.

Also, is there any dog forums that can help someone through the process of breeding?? I tried the pit bull forum but one of my dogs isnt pure bread pitt so they wont deal with me. butt heads..oh well, ive tried searching the net for one but just cant find a good one.

Thanks!!
lisa

Umm...Im NOT asking IF i should breed my dogs. But thanks anyway.

It's ignorant people like the first person who like to kill sweet, loyal, dogs like the pit bull terrior.

Ok, lets see....im waiting that long because i want to make sure she is mature enough so that the pups and her are healthy and she's old mature enough to take care of them.

Dogs can go into heat at 6 months. I have 5 adult dogs. 3 females . 2 males. The latest I've ever seen a first heat period is 9 months old. It depends on the breed, most vets advise if a female hasn't had first heat by age one, to come in for a full exam. It could be that she was born without ovaries.
It happens sometimes. If that is the case, she'll never have puppies.
Hopefully, that won't happen in your case.
My question to you is why do you plan to wait through 3 heat cycles ? That would put your female at least 3 years old before she gives birth. Thats rather old for a first litter, especially for a larger dog.
My vet advises if you are going to breed to do it on second heat and only allow a female to have one litter.

Usually between 5 mos and 14 months, any longer than that and you'll want to take her to the vet and have him check her over.
You're likely thinking going thru season 3 times before breeding, because that's normally going to take you over 2 years of age. Regardless when she first comes into season, you should wait til she is 2 years of age.

Normally they go into heat btwn 5-8 months. 10 months sounds a little old to not have gone into heat. You should talk to your vet. But you shouldn't be breeding her there are already many pit bulls in shelters that need homes you shouldn't contribute to that.

They start going into heat usually between 6 and 9 months.
