Yes, we should pray to God for healing of the sick. The bible records many instances of doing this.
We should also understand that God allows suffering in the world for many reasons.
First suffering can be a test of faith such as described in
1Pe 1:7 so that the tested genuineness of your faith--more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire--may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
Second, suffering can be a sanctifying experience. Joseph saw how an apparent evil towards him was meant for a greater good by God:
Gen 50:20 As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people should be kept alive, as they are today.
Third, suffering could be a chastisement as the result of sin in a person’s life. Chastisement does not mean complete and total rejection by God, only that our souls may be cleansed from the malady of sin. Paul spoke of this chastisement:
1Co 11:29 For anyone who eats and drinks without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment on himself.
1Co 11:30 That is why many of you are weak and ill, and some have died.
1Co 11:31 But if we judged ourselves truly, we would not be judged.
1Co 11:32 But when we are judged by the Lord, we are disciplined so that we may not be condemned along with the world.
Yet, not all illnesses or sickness is the result of sin. Christ clearly said as much:
Joh 9:1 As he passed by, he saw a man blind from birth.
Joh 9:2 And his disciples asked him, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?"
Joh 9:3 Jesus answered, "It was not that this man sinned, or his parents, but that the works of God might be displayed in him.
Jesus did not imply that the man or his parents had not sinned. He meant that the man’s blindness was not a direct result of sin in their lives. God had allowed this man to be born blind in order that the man might become a means of displaying the mighty works of God. Before the man was born, the Lord Jesus knew He would give sight to those blind eyes.
Fourth, suffering can sometimes be considered a means by which we display the sympathy of Christ in a practical manner, thus proving our faith through works. The Apostle Paul notes:
Col 1:24 Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and in my flesh I am filling up what is lacking in Christ's afflictions for the sake of his body, that is, the church,
The afflictions endured by Paul in his flesh were for the sake of Christ's body, namely, the church. The sufferings of non-believing people are, in one sense, purposeless. There is no high dignity attached to these sufferings. They are only a foretaste of the torment of hell to be endured forever. But the suffering of the believer is not the same. When believers suffer for Christ, Christ in a very real way suffers with them.
Fifth, suffering can be a means by which we are tempered (strengthened) for the eventualities to come. Christ, when speaking to Peter of his eventual death stated:
Joh 21:18 Truly, truly, I say to you, when you were young, you used to dress yourself and walk wherever you wanted, but when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and another will dress you and carry you where you do not want to go.
Like the old saying, “what doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger”, suffering can build us up so that we are better prepared for the future and its travails.
Sixth, suffering can be used as a witness to others of God’s grace. Our attitude towards an illness, accident, etc. and our reception of the same speak volumes when our spoken testimony is rejected.
Seventh, suffering is sometimes a means of weaning us from the things of this world to cause us to draw nearer to God. Suffering should be a means of educating us to the prospect of heaven. This earthly world is not the home of the believer. We are pilgrims and strangers whose citizenship is in another place. Our minds should be focused on things invisible and not in the temporal things of this life.
We must remember that with the fall of mankind in Eden sin entered the world, corrupting earth and all its inhabitants. Thus we have sin directly causing suffering when sinful people commit sinful acts. We have sin causing suffering indirectly by the deteriorating earth and all its natural disasters.
Some people argue that since God made everything, He made evil too. But an omnipotent God could not have created a morally free creature incapable of choosing evil. That does not mean God made evil. Yes, God is the author of everything in the created universe.
But evil is not a thing or a substance; it is a privation or lack in things (blindness is lack of sight, pain is lack of health, hate or murder is lack of love). Therefore God did not create evil.
Christ told us that we would suffer in this world:
Joh 16:33 I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.
But why doesn’t God just stop evil actions that cause innocent people to suffer?
Why doesn’t God intervene to stop evil if He is all-loving and all-powerful? Why doesn’t He stop the drunk driver’s car that is going to crash into a bus? Why doesn’t He deflect the murderer’s bullets? The person asking doesn’t really want God to stop all their evil actions. They don’t want to be invisibly gagged every time they’re about to say something hurtful; they don’t want to stub their toe when they try to kick the dog. They just think it would be good if God stopped certain evil acts or just the evil acts of others. But that would make life impossible. There would be no freedoms, no regularity and no personal responsibility.
Having said that, never forget that God is not indifferent to our sufferings. God restrains sin and sinners so that we can appreciate mercy and grace in light of sin.

If you have read the new testament.
You see there was a gift of healings.
And then in acts 10:38 it shows that Jesus healed and the devil oppressed.
It appears the God allows sickness and suffering to come into our lives for whatever reason. The people of the time of Jesus were oppressed by the devil and it is the same today.
All you can do is pray to be healed.
Be fervent about it and that is all you can do.
There is another view point however.
Luke 10:19 "Behold, I have given you authority to tread upon serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall injure you.
Luke 10:20 "Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you,
Maybe if you believe that you have the power as the verses say, and the authority of Jesus name has been given to you, you can command healing.

Smiles, that is a very valid question here.
First of all, I do pray for God's perfect will in a situation as he knows the future better than I do. Sometimes the best healing is to be able to go home to heaven where there is not the pain that a person goes through. I don't begrudge a person being taken to the Lord. But I also know that God can heal people (my husband is an example of this). But in praying, I want God to know that I love and trust Him because I want the focus to be on him. If I'm only praying for my wants, then I'm putting my needs above his...do you see the difference?
I know that in the book of Job, Satan was allowed to do all sorts of things to Job. But sometimes we go through difficulties because it makes us stronger. If our Christian walk was a piece of cake, would we truly grow, or would be be only Christians because of convenience. If you look at the people of the new testament, very few if any of them had a comfortable life. That's not what Christianity is designed for. But a relationship with Jesus Christ will give us the strength and support to cope through anything, if we learn to trust him.

Yes: It is God's Will for you to ask for healing. The Bible said if you ask anything in Jesus' name, believe that God is going to give it to you, because believing in God is telling God you have faith in Him. If you look in the Holy Bible the Four Gospel (Matt, Mark, Luke, John) Jesus is healing a lot of people. Sometime God allow the enemy to put sickness unto to you, so that when you are healed, you can tell other people that if you can overcome sickness, they can too, if they keep on believing that God will do it and not give up. God never use his power to make Christians that is living a holy life suffer in life, the Devil does that and sometime it can be a result from disobeying God. When you pray, God hears you, it's just the trick of the Devil when you feel like God don't hear it, because he is trying to discourage you and make you stop believing in God. That's why God want you to not go by what you feel, but by faith. It's God's Will for you to pray for everything you want, according to the Bible. I believe you're on the right path. If you have anymore question, please email me.

Yes we should ask for our healings, But you have to also see that when Christ walked this earth, he did not heal everyone, only those that his Father showed him, God does not bring suffering & pain & sickness to us. Yes God can step aside & let satan do these things, But satan is limited to what he can do, Just like Job, God let satan bring many things against Job, One thing satan could not touch, was Job's life. Pain & sickness & sufferings is from satan, God does not TEMPT anyone, He only test his people. By Jesus 39 stripes we are healed. Yet we know that sickness is part of the curse, & that curse will be lifted one day, Let's look at the millennium, Satan is Bound for 1000 yrs. No sickness in the milliennium, If we are alive when the milliennium starts, & if we have cancer, that cancer will not go into the milliennium, the person will, but not the sickness, Why, because satan is bound & he can not bring sickness on anyone, Once satan is destroyed after the 1000 yrs. Everyone that will cross over from the milliennium to the eternal age will never die.

You must always know and remember that our thoughts are not HIS thoughts.
Isaiah 55:8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.
Of course we always want our love ones to be around but that's not how it will always be if God see the need for them to go then He call the time. For He knows all things He knows what their future holds. And about the sickness do not always give credit to the enemy for it will sometimes be GOD trying to test your faith in Him. Remember Job in the Bible days...he lost everything he had and was sick for so long but he kept the faith and in the end he gain it back and more. We all go through and He knows how much we can handle. If you feel your praying is in vain then that let me know you are not trusting in Him. Do not be confuse for God is not an author of confusion.
1 Corinthians 14:33 For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.
So keep the faith and remember all things happen for a reason. God is one that makes NO mistakes.

When Jesus prayed in the garden, he asked if there be any other way, but not my will but your will be done. Jesus is our example, as Christians our prayers should always be according to Gods will. Many people have been deeply hurt when told that they don't have enough faith to be healed. When in fact we are given a measure of faith. Gods ways are higher than our ways. the way I look at it is that I'm saved and my healing will come, if not on this side of death then on the other. God is not bound by time, we are!
Up-date- I've read some of the answers that says it is ALWAYS Gods will to heal. Then all who go to the grave are out of Gods will? God says you will most surely die, every mortal does! (until Jesus return that is). It's in our afterlife that we are healed if we accept Jesus gift of eternal life.

I don't believe when we pray for healing that we need to ask if it's God's will. I believe that healing is always God's will. There is not one example in the Bible of anyone going to Jesus to be healed, where He tells them, "I'm sorry, but it isn't the Father's will that you be healed." Jesus always healed those who asked. The only reason He ever gave for a person not being healed was unbelief. Having said that, I know many sincere Christians who have died while believing for healing. And I don't have the answer as to why they weren't healed. Lack of true faith that God would heal them? I don't know. I think that sometimes we confuse faith with hope. Could it be that we have great hope, but our faith is not complete for a healing? I don't believe that God ever "gives" us sickness or disease--He is completely good and only does completely good things. But I do believe He can and will bring good out of bad situations. He will take what the devil intended for evil to us and bring good out of it for us. And I believe that He allows us to go through hard times that we can grow and learn from them. Just remember that God's will for us is always to do good, and not to harm us. (Jer. 29:11) Pray according to His word, trust Him, and never give up. Whether we live or whether we die, we will go to be with God if we have been saved.

It is an error to believe that all sickness comes from Satan and is evil. The Bible does not teach that. The Bible teaches that there are several kinds of sickness. There is a sickness on to death the Bible tells us. People get sick and die and that is part of God's plan. There is a sickness unto the Glory of God, and that kind of sickness can be healed. There is a sickness for discipline talked about in first Corinthians 11. There is a sickness onto the grace of God such as Paul encountered where he prayed three times for God to remove it and God said to him " My grace is sufficient". Paul was given that thorn in the flesh to keep him humble. To not try and discern what type of sickness you are dealing with before you pray for healing is to totally ignore the will of God.

You kinda answered your own ? above when you said if it is Gods will for us to be healed. But there are caches.
Sickness and suffering will always be there - unfortunatly oppsition helps us grow. If you dont adhear to the commandments of the lord chances are alot of your pain is coming from Satan.
How often do people ignore God till something bad happens in there life?
If you do adhear to the basic commandments then God only allows Satan to do so much. I think that you should read Job in the bible.
I hope that this was of some help. I am part of the LDS church. This was the only church that helped give my pain meaning. God loves and cares for you. If you want to know more of how to get answers to your prayers and personal revelation please check out www.lds.org. This is the only church that I have felt the most strongest pull of the spirit.
Good Luck..If you need additional scripture reference or advice please e-mail me.

God's word is his will. By his stripes ye WERE healed 1 Peter 2:24, who healeth all thy diseases..Psalms 103:3.
My faith stands that it is always God's will to heal but all don't receive healing. That's where my faith stands and I was healed after being very sick...I don't believe God makes anyone sick. Yes, he may work in your life through the sickness but he never puts sickness on anyone..I don't believe as Christians we are to flop in the wind about that. God is a good God...There shouldn't be any of this "maybe he will or maybe he won't."
