I think a lot of people already try to do that. The insults and degradation are the actions of a vocal few.
They too have their place, here. After all, all points of view are (at least in theory) welcome in an open forum such as this.
As for your making amends, I thank you. I do not know that we have had any argument, but I will say that I am glad to share this forum with someone who is courageous enough to admit fault.

I agree with you and the only way is to ignore the abuses.
On the other hand some people are really way too sensitive and perceive an abuse even when there was no intention of it in the first place.
It is important to be polite, but one has to express himself.
