Mary,
I have had suits, shirts, pants and an overcoat made in Thailand. I don't know where you are going in Thailand, but I got all of my clothing made in Bangkok.

The name of the tailor that I use is Rajawongse and they are located on Sukhumvit Rd. They do a lot of business for the American Embassy and they have made clothing for President Bush and his father

I am sure that you can find tailors that offer cheaper prices, but the quality of their work is outstanding! I have purchased clothes from their shop for the past three years and I will continue to do so as long as I can go to Bangkok. As of January, he charged 25 dollars for a shirt and 50 dollars for trousers. I'm not sure of the prices of suits as it was in 2003 when I got my suit made.

Here's their website: http://www.dress-for-success.com/

I hope that this helps.

I live and work in Bangkok and have suits made here many times, like Prezz33rd I go to Rajawongse on Sukhumvit, expert tailors, good service, and excellent English, it is always very busy and quite reasonable.

Shirts can be made at a fraction of the cost at home (where ever that is) but they do not stock material for casual trousers or jackets.

I too have bought suits and trousers 'off the peg' usually the trousers are too long and have been altered in shop within half an hour.

There is a tailor on Petchaburi Road that does the suits for the government officials - Dusit, where most of the government ministries are, is just down the road from there). He's Thai and doesn't have one of those nasty 2 suits, pants, ties, shirts for USD100 signs outside his shop. He doesn't hang around the front door of his shop stopping everyone that looks like he may be a potential customer either. But then I guess you know that quality costs money - even in Bangkok.

Yes and in thailand there's an "expert" tailor on every corner. Get one if you think the tailor's OK, but some of the shops on the tourist trail are rip offs by thai standards. Last year I visited one whose "brochure" of suits consisted of cutouts from the Next catalogue, and some pictures of Piers Brosnan! Classy.

Yes, many a plenty of times. Havent yet had a complaint to say about Crown Tailors in sukhumvit soi 8. Worth a look into. From previous experience, fittings are essential and time is good. More time = good work.

Yes in a large provincial town (away from the tourist areas) and it turned out great. Just buying ready made is an experience. The young shop assistants took the hem of some trousers up sewing it immediately in just a few minutes while I waited.

Take pictures with you from a catalogue or internet so that you can show the cut you want, especially with women's suits. Vietnam is another excellent place to have clothes made if you were thinking of going there, seeing as it's not too far away!

i have had shirts made for me, and my lady friend had dress suits made at different locations within Thailand, in all cases we had no problems you have them custom made to fit, and if your not satisfied they will fix it. they can have a suit made in a few days.
