I rescued a chihuahua from a farm. The previous owner used to beat starve him. I dont have any papers or anything on him. He is about 3-4 yrs old. I would like to get him neutered and have him get shots. He took to me instantly as well a couple of other people. But for some he didnt and he growls at them. Will getting him neutered fix this problem as well as him peeing on everything every 4 feet? Is it expensive getting him neutered, I am a student in college and dont have all the money in the world.

Check with your local SPCA or Humane Society. They often have programs for low cost spay/neuter.

It will help with the peeing. If you are diligent about taking him outside and rewarding him when he pees outside, plus the neutering, you should be able to stop the marking inside.

The neutering can help calm him. Mostly time and good treatment will help the growling at your friends. Don't pick him up, especially when he is growling or likely to growl. Walk away from him. Teach your friends to approach slowly and calmly, to kneel down instead of bending over the dog and hovering over him.

Neutering will help to calm any hormonal issues causing the peeing and snapping. However, if he is 3 or 4 years old, he will probably still act that way for a while because he is used to it. It should be easy to retrain him though. Go to a local shelter or rescue club and ask about free or low cost neutering. There are many organizations offering help with the cost of neutering, it shouldn't be hard to find one near you.

It would certainly help, sounds like he is marking the territorym neutering will stop this. I also would ask vet advice, Shampoo the rug with what you are supposed to and vinegar and rinse and again with the reg shampoo so the smell of hin doing it before is gone and train to go our side, Praise himn for going out, take himn out on a regular schedule. Don't hit him if he goofs up, he just don't understand yet, but he will, he won't want to dirty his house any more than you want him to. Good Luck and thank you and God Bless you for rescuing that dog!!!!!!!!!

the growling at certain people may not stop compleatly. he may be growling at those people because they remind him of his previous owner. Neutering will cut down on the frequent territory marking. Call around for prices. call the spca and see if they have the program for low income families to get their dogs neutered. you can obtain and give the shots yourself. its only about 30, but if you can afford it, take him to the vet to do it.

Neutering probably won't change his growling at some people. They might remind him of the people who beat him. As long as he likes you, get him neutered, get him his shots and love him like he deserves. With time, he might chill out and like more people. And good for you for being a responsible pet owner.

it will not stop his bad habits, but it will be the best thing for him. as for him growling at some people, dogs have a sense as to who likes them and who doesn't. regarding the cost, check with local spca, some areas give discount vouches that you take to vet when having this done. it will still cost, but not the full fee.
to "cure' his bad habits, just work with him, even though he is appox. 3years old, train him like he was a puppy. a mistreated dog that is given the correct training and love will turn out to be a great pet. I have 2, a cocker spaniel and a mini pin. the cocker was young when i got him so it was a little easier, but my mini pin was appox 2-3 years old and had never been outside, it took alot of time and training just to teach her to "do her business" outside. She had been beated by adults and children, but is now fantastic with my grandchildren. she will lay in my 2 year old grandaughter's lap for hours.
Please take the time and you will have a great pet.
good luck

Neutering will reduce makring and male aggression issues. It may take time for him to learn to trust freely though. Thank you for your rescue. Ask your vet for a payment plan or ask about the Care Credit program. Good luck
