I just made a drs. appt for my nephew's 15 month well child and immunizations. He has an older brother, soon to be 2 and a half. While I was on the phone the nurse went ahead and made the appt for the 2 and a half year old as well. I was under the impression that the next well child visit would be at age 3, not 2 and a half. But when I asked the nurse about it she said since the children have Medicaid they are required to have a well child check-up at 2 and a half. He is not behind on visits or shots. Has anyone else encountered this? I'm not at all complaining, but just more curious if this is something new.

They are on a schedule with Kidmed and have to keep it within their timeframes. They will most likely check his height and weight and motor skills on this visit. My son has his visit on April 18th and he will be 5 and 1/2. I think as long as it is within 6 months of their birthdays or something. B/c we were at the doctor today and it was too early to do the visit. Good luck.

My girls all have had the medical card for awhile(due to husbands work not offering insurance) and NEVER have I heard of them requiring a well child check at 2 1/2. Once they hit 2 it is generally yearly.

the 2 1/2 yr checkup varies from dr to dr my daughter's pediatrician does this with all patients but my cousins daughter's doesnt with any and she has medicaid we dont personally my opinion was that it was another way for the dr to squeeze a little more money out of his patients since he is in private practice instead of a group like most of them around here but i had no problems with taking her in as we had a lot of questions for him at that time anyway (she is speech delayed and that is causing her to be delayed in other things) but i do know that medicaid doesnt require this visit at least not in va but i have heard many different justifications drs have given for this visit that for most drs is not done

As long as Medicaid is paying for it and you will already be there what is the big deal?? Let them check his wt, ht and do a once over and make sure he is ok.

Generally, after two years old, exams are yearly. BUT, some insurances allow for a two and half year old exam, so if they pay for it, why not?
