My boyfriend has quite long hair and so he looks a bit like a girl. I know he's not though.
Sometimes, when we're out together, people mistake us for lesbians and its doing my head in!!
How can i get him to cut it without hurting his feelings?

Your discomfort has more to do with what "others" will think. If you really love him, does it really matter what others think?

Well,
First of all that's a bad deal, and I know what you mean about being out in public and people assuming things about you and who your with. I have a friend who is very large for a female. She's about 6'3" and is of heavier weight. She is kind of a tom boy because of being raised on a farm and having to do hard work all her life. She dresses in alot of "guyish" clothes due to her size, doesn't wear makeup, and has a more manly hair cut which makes her seem like a guy. Here was my dilema......everyone thought we were a couple rather than friends. People would also say things like "thank you sir" to her and it would make my heart sink! Here's my first piece of advice......who cares, I mean really, you know he's a guy and that you love him so that's all that is important. At the same time I have major sympathy for you, I mean who wants to be thought of as a lesbian if your not. I know you want to spare his feelings, and if that's the case then you'll just have to suck it up, and get over it, if not then........be truthful! Here's the thing, you need to let him know that you find him very attractive, and that you love him but that you feel like people are looking at you or are even commenting about you being a lesbian and you think it's because of his hair. Maybe he could wear it up, or trim it to a more guyish long cut. What ever you do be honest, you'd want the same respect from him. In my situation, I danced around it by telling my friend how her eyes are such a great feature, and that certain eyeshadows would really bring that out. I also offered to take her to a store especially for big and tall women so that she could find some more feminine clothes that fit her body type well. Now, she still wears guy clothes sometimes, but she also dresses and looks the part of a woman sometimes. Then again you might be able to save yourself the trouble with a simple "you know I think you'd look really hot if you cut your hair short". I hope you get it worked out for your own sanity! Good Luck!

I have long hair and often get mistaken for a girl. I don't mind though, I've got used to it. Just because your guy looks a bit like a girl, doesn't mean he IS one.
I am a bit "girly" any way, but my girlfriend has never bothered about it. I'm comfortable with who I am and so is she. What else or who else matters??

Don't worry about what other people think. If this is the only reason you want him to cut his hair, let him wear it long. So they mistake you for lesbians. It's no big deal. I feel this way because I never tried to please people I don't know.

That's going to make him get emotional - I know my lil' brother is into his long hair, but you just got to tell him that you want him to cut his hair and if he would do it for you, but now you've got to reinforce his ego, cause he would be doing that for you - I'm sure he will. Good luck! (I'm not a fan of the long hair look either).

Maybe you could comment on how handsome you think he is and point out a few other good things about his appearance. Then you might try telling him that shorter hair might accent his face a little better. But whatever you do, be sincere.

When you started dating him did he have long hair? Do you like his hair or do you just not like what others are saying? I have short hair, and if I didn't and my spouse didn't like it I would hope the she would talk to me about it.. Not tell me what I have to do, but talk about it to me...Honesty is still the best... Besides what kind of future do you have if you can't talk about little things like hair? Will it hurt his feeling if you tell him to cut his hair, yes, so don't tell him, ask him!

Start showing hi pictures of people with shorter hair and saying how sexy you think they are. You can also make some sort of bet that and make him cut his hair if you win.

He must know that people think he looks girly..... if it bothers it you more than it bothers him break up with him otherwise just get over it. Ask him to tie his hair back, and wear a manly shirt maybe.
