Depends what you mean by 'appliance'! Most things won't and will be damaged beyond repair as the voltage in France and all of Europe is 220/230 volts, the US is 120volts. Some things may have multi voltage power supplies, laptops/razors and SOME!! phone chargers, or you can buy step down transformers which will have to match the power needed for the appliance in use. You will have to check the rating plate on the 'appliance'. You will still need an adaptor to suit the different pin configuration

no, you will need an adopter for all appliances....go to your local Target store.....in the travel section, there have a bag with all different adopters you will need. about 14 dollars...there are several different plugs in it!!!
