It sounds like it's because of the litter box not being cleaned all of the time. Cats are very clean and they like having a clean litter box. If it's not clean, they will just find another place to go to the bathroom. It's the same as you walking into a nasty, dirty bathroom. You're not gonna use that bathroom, so you look for somewhere else to go. Ask your Vet and make sure that your kitty is not sick, when they are sick they have bathroom issues too. Just make sure that the box is cleaned every day.

it is because you can't clean the litter box all the time. Cat's are very particular about where they go to the bathroom, he is letting you know he isn't happy with the infrequency. I am pregnant and have a cat as well (with a husband who refuses to change the box also :) ) I have a litter box that sifts the clumps so I don't have to use a scoop, and I ALWAYS wear gloves to avoid any contact to prevent toxoplasmosis. As long as you wash your hands after you change the box, and have NO CONTACT with the litter, you will be fine. Also, (just to set your mind at ease) if you have grown up with cats, you are probably immune to the disease and should really have nothing to worry about. But it's always better to be safe than sorry!!!

Cats are very sensitive and can feel anything which isn't right.
Perhaps you should keep telling him about the coming baby so that he can feel like in the family. Your cat must obviously very clever, he is trying to tell you of his insecurity about the sudden change happening. Try loving him and paying more attention to him.
Another thing maybe is he may some infection in the bladder or his bottom may be in pain or inflammation. As you say you have kept his litter clean most of the time.
I believe that he is desexed already. if not get him fix.
If he keep doing maybe check with the vet. Hope he is OK
Good Luck!!!

Cats are inherently "clean" creatures, that means they enjoy clean litter boxes too -- for what it's worth...My cat likes to go outside for about ten minutes and do his business, we have no idea why, except to say he might enjoy being a "nature boy" lol.
Another thing is, if you're pregnant you need to ( I really hate to say this ) give your cat away to a person or the SPCA. You should NOT being changing a litter box if you are pregnant !!! Ask your doctor !!! I have seen my cat rip out the neck of a rabbit and the brain of a mole...beware, they are exceptionally vicious in the wild. Fortunately, he's an excellent mouse and de-snaker, in addition to being a general pain in the @ss at my bird feeder and koi pond, lol.
The reason is that even thought "cat" may seem clean, he is not really, and can be a BIG danger to a baby -- cat's don't usually like babies. Sorry to say this.

there can be two reasons for this--
-the cat box isn't being cleaned out often enough to the cat's liking (keep in mind, a litter box is like what a port-a-potty is to a human...)
-there is something in the kitty litter it's self the cat does not like. you might want to try using a different kitty litter.
or the problem could be a combination of both. try cleaning out the kitty litter box more often and switch the brand of kitty litter you use and see if there is a change. if there is not a change in your cat's behavior, i would suggest going to the vet and talking to them about it.

It is the season that other cats make their rounds and upset other cats. I will say that you should have 2 cat boxes, one for urinate and one for poop. They like it that way. Also sometimes this is a sign of a medical problem. keep that bedroom door closed or your bed wiol get soiled. So get another box, oit must be kwpt clean and use scent free, Try arm and happer or Tidy Cat with the small sign on it that says, new, Tidy Lock on it. It don't smell! Sometimes they hate the smell of their litter and wiulll show it in other ways that you won't understand. Good Luck.

Sounds like he wants a cleaner litter box and hubby isn't cleaning it out as much as you used to. Try setting up another litter box until you have the baby.

What kind of food do you feed your cat? I'm sure you have heard of the recall for several cat and dog food. You should check that out because a lady in my town had fed her cat the contaminated food and her cat did the same thing. So I would say if your cat is not eating either you should take him/her to the vet right away. However, if he/she is still eating and doesn't seem sick then it could be something else. I don't know that it would be your pregnancy but I wouldn't completely rule it out. Good Luck!!

Of course it has to do with you not cleaning the litterbox!
Cats are the cleanest animals alive, and yours is trying to tell you something---namely, that he wants to go in a clean potty!
If your husband can't take responsibility for caring for your pet, you can clean the box yourself, wearing rubber gloves. (My daughter is due next month, and she still cleans their cats' boxes.) If you really don't wish to though, at least try placing an additional litterbox next to the one your cat already has so he'll have more clean space to go in. Of course, this will mean that your husband has to clean two boxes instead of one.
I never really understood why some people thought that cleaning a litterbox every day was such a big chore; it takes all of three minutes to do.

Possibly, A cat used to A clean box does not take kindly to a dirty one. I have A friend who cleaned the box after each use, when she couldn't the cat messed out side the box. If the cat is a non castrated male your problems have just began. Perhaps he wants more of your attention.
