I am not a smoker, however, I feel that it has gone too far.
Now in Florida they are trying to pass no smoking on the beach?
The anti smokers need to do a little more research. The air that we breathe from exhaust, factories is always constant and polluting our air. Unless you live in a glass bubble, don't breathe. There have been people that have died or lung or bronchial cancers that do not smoke, and it was not from second hand smoke. My brother died from lung cancer, he smoked, but it was from asbestos, mesothelioma.
Personally I would rather smell a nice pipe tobacco or herbal cig that the kids are now smoking than some nasty musky funky perfume.
As far as drinking goes, yes there are strict laws on drinking and driving, drunk drivers kill and one or two drinks you are legally intoxicated. So why not ban alcohol all together? Teenagers are dying at an alarming rate due to drunk driving.
If someone chooses to smoke knowing the risks then let em smoke. If someone chooses to drink and drive , ruin their liver, increase their chance of diabetes , then they are no smarter or better than smokers.
Also, if everyone that smokes quit for one day, the truckers did not run the orders, then the anti smokers would really be crying. Don't they realize how much tax revenue is collected in each state each day from smokers. The numbers would be staggering, and eventually the sales and property taxes would go up if smokers rebelled.

You hit it on the head, it is socially acceptable. Its also still acceptable to drive your car while drinking, even though you are putting hundreds at risk every time you do so. Question: How many people do you know of who died or were seriously harmed as the direct result of smoking versus the number of deaths and injuries as the direct result of drinking alcohol? The glaring hypocrisy is amazing.
Look around, even though smoking pot is equally as bad or actually worse for your lungs and others lungs it is not a big social deal to smoke pot. More people smoke pot today than tobacco but little if anything is said about the hrm that does to your body. Another glaring hypocrisy.
The next thing is going to be fat. Being overweight is already a social gaf. Soon it will be penalized by insurance companies. Eventually it will be illegal to eat certain things. Look around you, its already happening.
Don't you love how the self righteous get to tell you how to live your life? Where are the freedoms that we are supposed to have? Why can these people tell you how to live and what you can or cannot do to your own body?
PS: I don't smoke.

Alcohol only affects the others around you when someone gets drunk & obnoxious; either when they get violent or when they drive drunk. There are already laws against those things; as far as I'm concerned, they could be even more strict. But a couple glasses generally don't make a person violent, don't affect the other people who are present, and yes studies have shown that a single glass a day is even good for us.
Btw, while 'drinking' as in an occasional glass, especially with dinner, is perfectly acceptable, 'drinking' as in getting drunk is NOT acceptable AT ALL here in the Netherlands, nor was it acceptable when I lived in Texas. I don't know where you're from but there are lots of campaigns against drunk driving, lots of campaigns against kids drinking, lots of campaigns against domestic violence (which is often, although certainly not always, alcohol related).

Because people have been bombarded by propaganda about the dangers of second hand smoke, not of the dangers of drinking. Also alcohol is a strong cultural aspect which many societies share.
Besides cigarette smoke stinks...

Smoking is bad for the people around them, just by second hand smoke in a building, close by or in a house or car can be killing their friends, family and others. And second hand smoke kills those around you if they are constantly breathing it faster than those breathing it through a filter. Those of us who do not smoke want clean air to breathe. Drinking is not as harmful to the air, and is only dangerous when someone breaks a law drunk. So that is why the smoking subject is pushed harder than drinking.

Because while both are dangerous, smoking can harm others just by being around someone who smokes. Second hand smoke is just as dangerous and harmful, if not worse, than smoking itself. Drinking is physically harming the person who is consuming the alcohol, smoking physically harms the smoker and the innocent bystanders.

Because there's no such thing as second-hand alcohol. We can be in a bar together and you can drink until you're blue in the face and it won't effect me or my health, the same cannot be said for smoking.
