Sya for example. You are getting on to the highway. As you enter there is a 18 wheeler. No way if you speed up you'll make it in front of it. So you brake to slow down a bit. But as youenter there is another 18 wheeler coming. As ou merge on it looks about a turck length away. But the truck was going to fast. Now it is almost about to hit you. What do you do?

I gave way to the first truck. An there was room for me to move in. But as giving way to the first truck my speed deaccelerated a bit. So as I was merging in the truck behind me caught up as I was trying to regain speed. This happen yesterday. I am safe. But it was scary. About I say we almost collided with about a inch away from my bumper.

My best bet was to probably move to the emergency lane. I mean I let the first truck go. But I say I was going 40 MPH as the on ramp lane ended, and merged on. An trying to regain speed that truck came so close. I had to double check if I was still alive.

It was your error in judgment. You, as the person entering the highway must yield to traffic already using the highway. While it is polite and appropriate for traffic in the travel lane to change to the passing lane to allow you in, it is not required. YOU must accurately judge if you can enter the highway safely without causing a dangerous situation and if that means stopping before entering the highway to let transport trucks go by first than so be it. Don't give me this "the truck was going too fast" as if you would have been in an accident, it would have been YOUR fault for not yielding, not the truck's for speeding.

As for the "What do you do?" part? If you noticed soon enough, I'd return to the onramp merge lane, slow down and let the truck go by. Otherwise you must drive in a manner that would be least likely to result in an accident. If you can make it into the lane fully without cutting the truck off, then it is the trucks responsibility to slow down and keep a safe distance and pass you if safe to do so and so desired.

When entering a highway you plan your merge from the moment you enter the ramp, not when it is too late. You must also match your speed to the highway traffic and pull into the highway lane asap, not at the last minute.

If there is no room your safest choice is to slow down, remain on the shoulder if there is one, and pull onto the highway when it is safe to do so.

Planning ahead is the secret to avoiding the situation. You are lucky you weren't killed. Take a defensive driving course.

Yes, just let the truck go by. You never want to get between two semis, especially when merging onto a highway. I've heard of cases where a car was crushed between two trucks, in at least one instance the rescue crews couldn't tell there was a car in there (and it was an SUV!).

One good way to prevent this is to watch the road you are merging onto as soon as you can see it that way you can slow to match the speed or speed up to fit in as you get to the end of the lane.
Be sure to watch for granny goodie who has stopped on the on ramp...

Yeah it is technically your responsibility so you would have to slow all the way down even. When that happens to me I end up flying along the shoulder cursing at myself. Never get in front of a semi unless you are about 6 car lengths in front of it (if going 60.. 5 if 50.. etc..)

Wake up perhaps....sounds like a nightmare to me......
(If you are being serious, then you should have waited for a clear lane to merge into...the highway has right of way)......
