I am taking morphine for Chronic Pain following an Al-Qaeda attack. As the dosage rises, I am getting more and more apprehensive about this potentially lethal medication. Am just curious how much is considered a lethal dose, so I can see how safe I am. I do not want to ask the doctor directly, because it may send a mixed message. Especially considering all the anti-depressants I take.

There is no lethal dose per say....it would be different for everyone. If you have been on it for a while, then you have a high tolerance to the medication. If you are increasing your dose yourself, that is really BAD. If it's not controlling your pain at the dose the doctors put you on, then you need to tell them so they can either adjust your medication or change it to something else. There are other pain meds out there that work better than morphine and you can take a much smaller dose. Please talk to your doctor and don't self-medicate beyond your directions.

And thank you SO much for your service. You're a hero.

I'm so sorry about what happened. That's awful. I have no idea how much it would take to be lethal and I'd be a bit careful getting your information from here.

You really should ask your doctor. Even just tell him that you are concerned about the dosage and you want to make sure you're within safe limits. You have every right to protect your life.

you are pretty much ok , it is a bi product of heroin , as your body gets used to the morphine , it will be able to tolerate more of it , there is very little chance if you a receiving advice and prescription , even with anti depressants that the morphine will be doing permanant irrepairable phisical damage , as it is a drug which the body will tolerate at higher doses , if you at some stage need to come off the morphine - this will be hard. hang in there buddy - keep your chin up ..

Many questions of this nature--"How a lot.......is hazardous"? Too many elements to provide a definitive reply--frame weight, age, different meds being taken, and so forth, however following dosing recommendations mainly continuously continues you in risk-free zone.
