will it turn out ok if i don't start it on the stove top, just put it in the oven?

It'll turn out fine, just pre-heat the pan in the oven for a few minutes before adding the egg mixture.

Yes, and you can do it w/out an oven!!

When cooking your food in a frying pan on a burner, instead of taking the food out of the pan, add beaten eggs, to the food in the pan. It might seem like you are making an omlette, but it is quite different, and very, very close to a frittata. You may also like to add a lid to steam cook the top of the frittata.

You shouldn't put a non oven proof frying pan in the oven... the best result for a frittata is to start it on the hob then finish it under the grill.

they turn out fine, here is a recipe i use all the time.
Bacon Cheese Frittata
INGREDIENTS
6 eggs
1 cup milk
2 tablespoons butter or margarine, melted
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1/4 cup chopped green onions
5 bacon strips, cooked and crumbled
1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
DIRECTIONS
In a bowl, beat eggs, milk, butter, salt and pepper. Pour into a greased 11-in. x 7-in. x 2-in. baking dish. Sprinkle with onions, bacon and cheese. Bake, uncovered, at 350 degrees F for 25-30 minutes or until a knife inserted near the center comes out clean.
