Food is fun only if you can eat it sitting on a couch at a party without getting suace or juices all over yourself. I love soup and it can be fun if everyone is sitting down but its not fun when you're perched precariously on a couch and you get soup all over yourself.
Also, what makes a food fun, is an unexpected quality: vegetables cut into shapes, familiar foods with unusual ingredients or unusual seasonings or prepared in a slightly different way. You don't want shockingly Klingon food but just something mostly familiar but a little different.
For instance, a Peanut Butter and Jelly (PB&J) sandwich is pretty boring but to make it fun, you could make a PB&J: on bakery ciabatta bread; with Almond Butter; with Adams All Natural Peanut Butter and Danish Orchards Boysenberry Preserves (I have that all the time, its my favorite!) or (I did this once when I had a family over for lunch) PB&J canapes which are sandwihes with the crusts cut off cut into wedges. Its fun because its ironic, you have this high class presentation with a "low-class" food.

home made tacos and fajitas are fun during a party because you get to add whatever toppings you want to personalize your meal while mingling with everyone as you move from one topping to the next like a buffet.
