so much for learning from their mistakes huh? in basic training the main lesson recruits learn is FAILURE! how to recognize it, find its causes, prevent and overcome it.

What you are saying makes absolutely no sense. No one in today's military is ever punished by death. And you cannot be punished by suicide. Suicide is self inflicted, so no one can force you to do it. They could only force you to kill yourself, which is still just death.
People make mistakes. When you are in the military, these mistakes sometimes cause deaths. It is a raw deal, but it is something that is known when taking the job to protect your country. It is the same, to a lesser degree, when you are a fire fighter, police officer, or any other at-risk job. The military does not punish you for being weak by sending you on "impossible" missions.
Now your logic is that in the older military years, they were more fair to their soldiers. They cooked... and that job was given to the people who could not fight..? Well think about it, military still has cooks. Would it not be the same basic people getting those jobs? So what has changed. Second, think about this, we have more advanced weapons so that soldiers are less often in direct danger. Doesn't this allow for less opportunties of mistakes resulting in death? Sounds like advanced technology is helping to make things "safer". Now consider that in many previous wars, there were a draft. This meant that ANYONE could go to war. Today's military is soley volunteer. No one has been forced to do it. That means that the people there know their risks, accept them, and should be prepared for them. How is it that today's military is more cruel than before? Consider how many Americans have died in the entire Iraq war. It is less than some battles of WWII. Your logic is flawed, and if you want to bash the US military system and leadership, at least make good points. I am done with this now...

In which branch did you serve to become such an expert?
Stop watching b-rate war movies, pealing potato's is not a punishment used in the military. In Okinawa one of my Marines had a loose round in MOUT training, I had him clear a drainage ditch by hand in full MOPP.
Being the expert you are I would imagine you know what MOUT and MOPP means.
By the way, will you be committing suicide for failing to ask an intelligent question?

Quick review: To be in the military you have to volunteer. No one picks you or makes you do this. Whatever the mission is as a soldier you must do your job and complete the mission regardless of how tough it is. I'm not sure who you are but you sound totally uninformed. I feel you do not have the right to pass judgement on todays military. Stick to something you know, presuming you know anything at all.

No, I don't agree that failure should be punishable by suicide or death, and I sincerely hope you don't feel that way, either.
In Iraq, we are in a war where the current rules of war and political strategy no longer work. The same thing happened back in our Revolutionary War.
The problem is not our solders, it's the strategy they are using and more importantly the fact that we probably should never have entered into this war in the first place.

what do you mean by fallen soldiers? The military isnt for everyone, but i believe that if you want to serve, then yes, find a position that you can perform, and its not a bad idea, having a basic training program for people with certain disabilites, and let them do jobs that dont require combat or deployment, paperwork and data input things like that.

First I'm tending to agree with the statement "You're an idiot", second suicide is not a punishment unless you consider it a self inflicted punishment, third the only problem with our military is the governmental leaders who are the idiots. Our troops are the finest in the world. My question to you is what's your problem, are you the crap that was left behind?

Maybe the military isn't what it use to be, but do you seriously think that we should kill them. I think that you just wrote this out wrong. People get away with murder in this country literally and we need to take care of those problems. I think that the job our soilders are doing is not punishable by any crime realting to torture or death and I believe anyone who things that should be thrown in the middle of the war in the middle east.

The modern soldier is to the traditional samurai warrior incomparable. Both are superb at what they do. However, we do not have the cult of hari kari. Enough men die already thank you very much.
And why do they die?

If I follow your logic, I would have to assume you are unfit to even make it into the military. They require a certain level of intelligence.
