Cats and kittens have sensitive stomachs. Just switching to a new food, upsets their stomachs. Vets reccommend that you add a little new food in with the old food, and gradually increase to the new food until it's all new food.
You may want to try an ultra bland diet, until the diarreaha stops, because diarreaha is potentially deadly to cats.
Try boiling ground turkey and adding a few cups of rice. My cats LOVE it when i make this for them. It's bland, but yummy!
Good Luck!

You didn't mention what the old or new foods were. If you were feeding your kitten a food that was recalled, then you should have him checked out.
It is perfectly normal for your kitten to have diarrhea from switching to a new food. That does not, however, mean that it's safe. (It's normal to bleed if you cut yourself badly, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't take care of the cut!) Diarrhea can be dangerous, especially for kittens because they are young and highly susceptible to dehydration and illness.
You should make sure there is plenty of water available at all times, and also take your kitten to the vet just to be safe. This is for two main reasons. You want to be sure Kitty doesn't dehydrate (very dangerous) if he's just becoming used to a new food -- but more importantly, diarrhea is one of the warning signs of sickness from the recalls, and there's a chance that it's the OLD food causing the diarrhea. That can be deadly.
Please don't take a chance with your kitten's life -- take him to the vet, just to be safe. He MIGHT be just fine on his own -- but, he might not. It's not worth the risk.

Well what you should have done is mixed in the new food gradually. In this case I understand you needed an immediate switch, so just wait it out! Your cat has to adjust to digesting the new food, and should eventually be OK again. If it persists after a week I would take the cat to the vet, who should be able to recommend a food that would be better. Also, leave plenty of water out so that your cat doesn't get dehydrated.

Bring him to the Vet. Don't just think that because he has better food that the diarrhea will stop. He might get kidney failure following the diarrhea.

Do call the vet, but also don't give him milk, as milk can cause diarrhea in kittens.
I feel lucky as my cat and dog ate nothing but dry food before the recall.

Sometimes , yes changing the animals usual brand of food will cause the animal to have diahrrea. I prefer to use IAMS , brand. Once I used a cheaper brand and my pet got real sick. OR go to the pet store and see which is the most NUTRITIONAL food for your pet. IT would probably be cheaper than a vet visit. But if the problem persists... I would take them in to be checked.

I would take him to the vet to be on the safe side. Just in case he's getting sick from the old food. Try and make sure he's drinking water.

Call your vet. Your may not be able to digest the new food but it also could be a symptom of kidney failure. If you gave your cat any of the recalled food I would take it to the vet to get tested.

Tummy upset is normal when changing foods. Your cat should get used to the new food eventually.

Hang in there your kitten should be fine in a couple of days. Please don't give him any of the recalled food you don't want to chance him dying over it.
