The US is an English-speaking country. Other languages should not be catered to.

In polite conversation, the majority should speak one language. The educated, cultured Spanish speaker would defer to the group. English is the most widely accepted language of business, science, medicine. Spanish language speakers are learning fast...as are the Chinese and many other nationalities that desire to do business with English speaking countries.

LOL! You have made our point. Like everyone else said above, we need to remove spanish options in this country, so that spanish speakers will learn English.
Bill Gates just wants to sell more Windows operating systems to Mexicans. Don't think for one minute that he cares about poor Mexicans, he wants you to come here make money and buy computers. He's the world's richest "greedy-takeover" dork.

I know, everywhere I go it seems the government makes it easy for those that come from Mexico and other Spanish speaking places not to have to learn English. But all sort of programs are in place for them in Spanish but not for us the natives. 3 immigration officers that patrol were sent to prison in TX. for doing their job and the Mexicans trying to slip over got in no trouble. The attorney-general of TX. was responsible for this deal according to the news.

So they can converse with the majority and because it's the right thing to do. Regardless of what the pompous Brits think. How would they like to go to a restaurant and have to order by pointing to the menu because the waiter can't speak the language? Are the police supposed to be conversant in every language that is spoken in the US? NO!!. Besides, English is the lingua franca of the WORLD!! You can go to a foreign country and find natives who speak English better than most Spanish speakers who live in the US.

Good point. We should do away with the option to speak Spanish.
That WAS your point, wasn't it?
Because that is the EXACT reason people give for not letting Spanish be used in any official setting.

Oh, this is a great question. In the city I live in, all the signs and billboards are in Spanish. I feel like the foreignor.
It's like this, if you keep bailing your kid out of trouble, why should he change? If I were an immigrant illegal or not, from another country other than Mexico, I'd file suit asking why all things were not available in my language too.

There is not the option to speak Spanish everywhere and that is why they need to learn English.

I think Mexicans are to lazy to learn english, so they want all america to learn spanish. i live in a city where that's all they speak is spanish, sometimes I forget I'm in AMERICA. i have neighbors who have lived in this city for 30 years and have yet to learn one sentence of english. I think we should stop baby sitting these people, either learn english or don't ask for help

There are very few things that annoy me more. I live in the western US, spanish signs are everywhere, even government buildings. What happened to equal opportunity? It would not annoy me if they were also posted in every other language on the planet, but no, just english and spanish.

Funny thing...Munya's grandparents came over from Europe in the 1900's stuffed in a cattle boat....first thing they did was apply to become citizens and learn the language. They never spoke their native tongue again, I remember Grammie saying "ENGLISH ONLY" to the other Old School relatives...
