Genesis 3
The Fall of Man
1 Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, "Did God really say, 'You must not eat from any tree in the garden'?" 2 The woman said to the serpent, "We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, 3 but God did say, 'You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.' " 4 "You will not surely die," the serpent said to the woman. 5 "For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil." 6 When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. 7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.

Original sin.

Original sin is the sin by which the first human beings disobeyed the commandment of God, choosing to follow their own will rather than God's will.

As a consequence they lost the grace of original holiness, and became subject to the law of death; sin became universally present in the world.

Besides the personal sin of Adam and Eve, original sin describes the fallen state of human nature which affects every person born into the world, and from which Christ, the "new Adam," came to redeem us.

With love in Christ.

This is a spiritual account (not literal) of a huge leap in the evolution of mankind. It was during this age that mankind began to reflect his capacity to know and love God. Prior to Adam and Eve early man was unaware of the existence of a Creator, much as animals are (and always will be).

"Having created the world and all that liveth and moveth therein, He, through the direct operation of His unconstrained and sovereign Will, chose to confer upon man the unique distinction and capacity to know Him and to love Him - a capacity that must needs be regarded as the generating impulse and the primary purpose underlying the whole of creation. ... Alone of all created things man hath been singled out for so great a favor, so enduring a bounty." -Baha'u'llah

I think it portrays how sin is always before us, pleasing to the eyes and the senses, but we must not give in. Adam & Eve were somewhat children in adult bodies if you think about it, I mean, God knew they would take the fruit. BUT TO ANSWER, I believe it means in todays societies to be as smart as snakes but innocent as doves. God bless us all.
