Ford gurus, thermostat info?

When installing the thermostat on a 1990 Aerostar, would one put the spring end facing the water pump, or would the spint end be facing the outlet piece the hose attach to?

Face the water pump. that is where the hotter liquid is. If you reverse it it will never open....
