The stereo in my car is having technical difficulties. About 25% of the time it's perfectly fine, but the other 75% it becomes extremly fuzzy and distorted. Most of the time if I hit it hard with the palm of my hand it will come back to life...for a little while at least (sometimes I gotta hit it multiple times). Do I need a new stereo, or is this just a loose wire somehow. And if it is just a loose wire, how do I go about fixing this. Thanks!

Is this just a radio, or also a CD or cassette player? And if it's a combo unit, do you have the same problems when playing sources other than the radio tuner?

If you're getting the distortion through all the speakers, then it's not being caused by a loose wire. If it's only on the radio, it may be a problem with your car's antenna, or with the tuner section in the radio. If it's occurring with other sources too, then the amplifier in the radio is probably defective.

My opinion would be it is a bad radio. If it was a loose wire to the speakers you would be able to hear good from other speakers. If it was a bad antenna, hitting it wouldn't make a difference.
