It is possible to listen to and record what you say on your mobile phone by intercepting the signal. The signal from your phone travels over the airwaves and anyone can receive that on a radio receiver. The trick is to decode the signal to turn it back into a useable form (the signal is digital now and you need it in analogue form - it was much easier apparantly when the phones were analogue phones, then you just needed to tune a receiver to the correct frequency). I dont know if equipment to do that is available, but I suspect that various security services have the technology/

Apart from that you can listen in to the call from the phone companies premises if you can identify the phone and things like that. Thats what the police and people are most likely to do - get an injunction and just listen in legally

So yes it is possible, but I dont know how to do it technically

Yes, they can tap into your mobile phone. You may remember recent cases in the UK when mobile phones of footballers, Max Clifford, etc., were tapped, and in Greece where the mobiles of high-ranking ministers were bugged. Nothing is 100% secure these days. Spooks can do almost anything they want - check your emails, listen to your conversations, etc. But do they want to? Not unless you are a 'target'. And what have you done lately to be one? Nothing? then relax.
