No, not in our minds. There really are some hot peppers out there. Not all are hot but some really are hot.
My mom make this sautéed meat with bell peppers, onion, tomatoes, and hot peppers for dinner once. Only she didn’t tell us about the hot peppers. I nearly burned my tongue off the food was soooo spicy. And mind you I do like spicy food but this was just ridiculous.

I think maybe the question you may be trying to ask is: 'Can chilli peppers physically burn you or cause you actual damage/harm?
Or something like that, and the answer... I'm not sure, I don't think so but I may be wrong.

Its a chemical that gives the hot sensation. I once was cutting some up and rubbed my eyes it was bloody hot and very unpleasant.
