I take meds for migraines sometimes/most likely caused by allergies, been to allergist which was a bust, family doc has given me singular as a last resort (I've tried all the others so please be Singulair specific). I'm primarily worried about the possible side effect of "headache" since I'm prone to them and I haven't found anything specific to that on the web. Thanks!

Hello, I have both personal as well as professional experience with Singulair® (montelukast). I suffer from allergy symptoms year long. Singulair has helped the most in relieving my symptoms and I haven't experienced any side effects - except when I forget to take it! Unlike traditional antihistamines, Singulair must be taken everyday to work effectively.

If you go to the RxList.com link, you'll notice that headache is not listed as a side effect, but I'm sure you know that headache is still a a possibility. However, headaches are a predominant symptom of allergies. I was tested for allergies and was positive for 30 out of 36 allergens. I take Allegra, use 2 sprays as well as Singulair. If I miss I suffer; if I take as prescribed, I feel much better.

I hope this helps.

I think Rick the Pharmacist has the best answer for you. But I would like to add that allergies can be the cause of migraines. I take singulair and clarinex for my allergies and asthma. I also suffer from migraines but as long as I keep my allergies in check I seldom have a migraine. I hope you start feeling better soon.

I've been taking Singulair for over a month now, and haven't noticed any headaches, or increased headache activity. Hope this helps!

I took Singulair and it gave me severe urges to use the bathroom all day long. I don't know if it will happen to you, but if its worth a shot, try it.

Maybe your headaches are from stress or you need glasses. maybe you are caffeine dependent. Acupuncture or a massage might help. My mother in law also has pills that she takes at the onset of a headache.

Singulair is a good medication. It's often the one that docs try last because it is a bit more expensive and it's not an anti-histamine, it's an anti-leukotryine. It works differently. I have heard very good things about it.

good luck!
